Hi, are all VA residency programs a part of larger university programs? Or are some of them on their own? If some are on their own, does anyone know if they participate in NRMP/eras, what sort of scores they take, what sort of graduates?

Thanks!

You are posting in General Residency Issues so we do not know what specialty you are asking about. I can comment on IM-- I believe that up until last year there was only on stand-alone VA program in the country (West Los Angeles). It combined with Cedars Sinai's IM residency program so I don't think there are any stand alone programs left. In general VA hospitals are academically affiliated with universities and you would rotate there as part of residency in a university program.

I know for my specialty(Path) there are no stand alone VAs just programs that have rotations at the VA as part of the bigger residency programs.

The only exception I can think of is actually a fellowship for psych and that is substance abuse fellowships. There are a few that are VA only.
