I know there are several threads on applying for VA jobs, but my question hasn't really been addressed (that I could find). Anyway, I'm planning on going into a research position after internship, and recently there have been several VA research psychology openings posted.

Knowing that the hiring process can be extremely long, I'm wondering if it would be worth applying right now. Here's the catch, I start internship in two months, so it would be about 14 months before I could even begin. So, is it too soon to submit an application? Are there any circumstances in which the VA may hire someone a year out for a position?

Yes, this is too early, Hiring at the VA does take some time, but not 14 months. I would plan to start looking perhaps six months out. Best wishes! :luck:

Took me about eight months from the time I got an informal offer until my start date. Supposedly, they've cut that down somewhat over the past year or two.

Thought I'd revive this thread for a new question. Are there age restrictions for being hired at the VA? I've heard 35. Is that true?

The timeline can vary for each VA. I would recommend starting the process about 9 months prior to the date you want to start working and network! It is also important to be flexible about locations.
