I have seen threads about most schools, but I don't think I have seen a VA-MD one yet to ask if anyone has heard anything. I know one of the other threads mentioned that this past Friday last year was the day email notifications went out, but I have heard nothing. Anyone have any ideas? Do both interview invites and rejections come by email?

VMRCVM tends to be a wee bit on the late side of things when it comes to notifying interviews and acceptances/rejections (or so I remember). I got my acceptance letter by snail mail and was called for my interview....but then again that was almost two years ago so they very well may be doing email now and my attempt at a helpful post is useless, heh. Hope ya'all hear soon, I know how aggravating the wait can be 😉

No one here talks about VMRCVM, it makes me quite a sad panda. I like to brag. We tend to fly under the radar a lot. Anywho, if anyone gets an interview and needs a place to crash (and doesn't mind dogs/cats/snakes/geckos being in the house) I'd be happy to help ya out.

Don't be a sad panda! Though I would be sad if I had the digestive system of a carnivore but only ate bamboo. I quite like VaMd, and hope they accept me this year. Blacksburg is an awesome town too, it is beautiful like Covington (where I used to live, an hour to the north) but has a better fine dining spot than a Western Sizzlin. I especially like Gillian's, though I am not a vegetarian.

I HEART VMRCVM! 😍I did an internship there this summer, and REALLY REALLY hope to get an interview/get in there. (My #1 choice) I loved it there! They are my IS school, but even if they weren't, I'd still apply. The town is gorgeous, everyone was really nice (faculty, students), I enjoyed every minute of clinical rotations and research.
I would take you up on the offer in a heartbeat! I hope to hear something very soon, otherwise, I might lose my sanity.

They gave me a phone call last year for an interview invite. I can't remember exactly when it was but it's probably on the interview thread from last year. I was OOS btw. I really liked the professors at the school but Blacksburg was a little lacking IMO. I drove down in a snow storm and they were so worried about all of us that they made us promise to call them when we got back home!

Blacksburg either bores the crap out of you, or you love it 😉 It really is one of two. I grew up right outside of DC so it was really amazing to suddenly come down here ("WTF? There are COWS in my backyard! I've never even SEEN a cow!") But I've been here for ~6 years (did my undergrad here too, so I'm a through-and-through Hokie ) now it has grown on me amazingly. I'm a townie now

And yeah, I'm not vegetarian/vegan either but Gillie's has the best food on the planet!😍 I'm actually going there tonight haha. Time for some Thai tofu stirfry....

He-he. I can completely relate to that: I grew up in Moscow, Russia. (Think NYC-like atmosphere). I was also surprised how quickly I fell in love with Blacksburg. 😀

I called Joyce to find out when the interviews for instate were going to be because I need to schedule my MN interview weekend, and she said that they were going to be the 6th, 7th and 8th. I didn't ask about OOS or when they were going to call us, for the love of god, ha ha ha. Thought you'd like the info.
I do recall that OOS interviews were the week after the IS interviews last year but who knows.

Looking at the calendar, it looks like the third week of January to me! Feb. 6 is just three weeks away; I can't imagine them letting people know closer to the date. I vaguely remember the post about phone calls, but as I recall, it was one of those "I heard that..." posts.

I had spoken to someone from VA-MD (whoever answered the phone) last week. She said that interview invites should go out this week by phone call (at least for OOS). It may be different for in state.

Joyce always is the one to answer the phone. And I think they must do in-state around the same time, because in-state interviews are the week before OOS.

Hm...so we're still at the level of speculation (for in-state), but at least it seems like well informed speculation now. 🙂

I'm IS and I haven't gotten an invite. I am pretty upset right now as I know my grades are not fabulous, but I was still hoping. I guess I will start looking towards next year...

Hang in there, VeganChick. It's not clear how schools send these things out...in batches or what. My grades aren't fabulous either, so don't give up yet! (You can always PM me, too, if you'd like to talk more. Insanity loves company. 🙂)

I am sorry that more of you have not heard, I don't know if they do batches or not.

I know it is upsetting as I went through the whole "I'm not good enough" thing last year when I got rejected. I decided then to do everything I could do this year to make my application better, including quitting my teaching job to work for an LA vet for free and working a crappy job at a Banfield- that is a whole other story...

I guess my point is that it hurts, and it sucks, but 8 months (until Oct.) can make all the difference. Like VaGirl, feel free to PM me and we can talk about it, though I don't think I am as nice as her! I got some good advice from my mentor (the LA vet who has been practicing since 1958) and I can tell you what Joyce told me to do last year to make my app better, though it was mostly tailored my individual deficiencies.

If you look at the statistical profile of the class of 2011 the info is there as to how many va, md and OOS apps, how many interviews, etc. It is a link on the main page on the left.

Don't get too worried about slow responses right now. Our admin is pretty short-staffed right now because some people have retired, our associate dean sent all the students a letter because we have been held up some too. Breath! Breeeeathe!🙂

I am so going to keep invading this thread....come join us muaaahahaa...there is a ton of snow on the ground right now so I am at the computer, bored silly and putting off doing my Clin-Path cases - woops!
