Anyone put on the wait list after their interview get off yet?

I'm pretty sure they said that at the end of the interview season they would let us know our position on the list and then they would start pulling people. So I am guessing tht nobody will hear until around April.

I thought I read somewhere on here that Vanderbilt doesn't rank the students on their waitlist. Anyone know if this is the case?

i don't think there's an actual ranking that they'll tell you, but they do trim down the pool a couple of times.. so you must be in the top ___ not to get cut

I asked Dr. Sagen if anyone ever gets off the wait list prior to May 15, and she responded by saying that most people who get off the wait list will receive their call between May 15 and June 1. Not exactly the answer to my question, but still informative. Of course, I'm sure Vandy's not immune to the random drop out requiring a wait list invite on the first day of class, but it sounds like they fill out the class pretty quickly post May 15.

Does anyone know when Vandy completes their interviews and when their second look weekend is? I am just trying to gauge when all of these items wrap up, so those of us on the waitlist can anticipate spots opening up. Just hoping for some wishful thinking!

i think the offers end April 15 and the waitlist would begin moving

Their second look weekend is April 11-13, so unfortunately probably before any of us will hear off the waitlist. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway. Looks like we had the same interview date though -- from your MDApps, I think I remember meeting you. Good luck!

Interviews ended sometime in early/mid February. I could tell since that's when the daily "interviewee sitting in front of the projector during lecture making an embarassing situation for him/her" stopped

🙁

I sat in front of the projector

Ouch. I recall that one time a lecturer stopped for a moment in confusion when the screen was briefly blacked out by a shadow of an interviewee. At least the lecturer didn't call out the interviewee, that would have been very embarrassing.

oh, I wasn't that dumb. I did realize the very top of my head was barely blocking the projector, so I ducked.

do you ever go to those Wednesday lunch lectures that the informatics department hosts?

Yeah I am pretty sure I remember you as well. We were a couple of the older guys there, since we are both non-trads. Good luck to you too! I am really hoping I can make it to Vandy off the waitlist but I am not betting on it because they waitlist so many people.

Anyone know how many people they shrink the list down too around End of May to beginning of June.

No, but if there was one thing that irritates me alot, is that those bioinformatics people eat their lunches and leave food messes on the tables in the lecture hall. I find it quite rude and unprofessional.

well you can't blame it just on informaticians, since it's open to everyone and they get a lot of random people in there who just want free food.

but i understand how irritating it would be.

I just reread the letter I received telling me that I was on the wait list. Dr. Zic said that after the interviews are over, they'll make some final offers from the wait list. I don't know how many offers they make or when they make them, but I assume they're done with interviews now.

Also, he said that we would get another letter in May telling us more about our standing.

Has anyone heard anything from Vandy recently? Has anyone been accepted from the wait list? Does anyone know how may people are accepted after the interviews are over?

Hi: From the past few year's threads, one might predict that very little will happen if anything at all in the month of April. In the past mid-May appears to have the most action as far as the waitlist goes.

is it true that they waitlist everyone who was not initially accepted? i think they interview >1000 so that would mean one huge waitlist.

from what I've heard, it breaks down to something sort of like this:

900 interviewed
- 300 accepted outright
- 100 rejected outright
- 500 waitlisted

according to this presentation they gave today, Vandy has accepted 5% of their 5000 applicants this year with an average MCAT of 35 and GPA of 3.82

I wondering if we will start hearing something after the second look weekend. You would probably figure most of the people are holding on to their acceptances to go to second look and check it out one more time. I think the second look is in a couple of weeks. Maybe a few of us will start to get lucky after that weekend. :luck:

All schools will accept a bunch more than they have spots for, knowing that some will choose to go elsewhere. Schools have figured out what this "number needed to fill" is. I would guess that 150+ (just a guess) people have been accepted and invited to 2nd look. After May 15th (is that still the date?) people will drop their spots. Even if a bunch don't like Vandy after the 2nd look, it won't likely be enough to drop below 105 and send the adcom off running to the waitlist. Expect no movement until after the deadline to drop multiple acceptances.

Our recruitment event is April 11-13, so maybe people who are turned off will drop their acceptances after that time.

Any news from anyone????? I wonder if they have any waitlist movement at all based on the large number accepted?

Bump............Any news?

hey zeus. nothing here bud. nice avatar.

Did they really send out letters telling people where they were on the waitlist? It's unranked right? Just curious bc I never got the letter either.

As I understood it, they rank in quartiles with only the top 25% being given serious consideration off of the WL. Of this top 25% they tend to favor students adding diversity, legacies, and family members of Vanderbilt faculty/staff.

The letter about the status of the wait list was just promised for May, so we still have some time. I always figured it would be post May 15, so maybe this week sometime.

I would not be surprised if your first point was true, but I know everyone off the waitlist in my class. Your second point does not hold for my class as far as I can tell.

Hey guys, I'm currently enrolled at Vandy but got off another WL that I'll be attending. So I'm withdrawing from Vandy. :luck: to you all! Vandy is AMAZING! There will always be a piece of my heart at Vandy.

Just a heads up, I got my update letter today and it was bad news. Good luck to everyone else!

kool aid, where are you geographically? close to TN?

If you dont mind, what did the update letter say?

I got my letter today too. Mine was different however. It said that my application "will be retained in what is now a smaller pool of applicants that can be drawn upon to fill positions in the class that may become available"

I guess they are just narrowing down the waitlist.

Best of luck ya'll!!

hmm...now the question becomes "how narrow"? I think the thread last year or two years ago said they cut it from about 600 to 300...

I gotta give it to Vanderbilt for making it exciting....now when I check my mailbox and see an under-stuffed envelope I won't know right away that I've been rejected.
POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING

Thanks for the update guys. No letter here but should be receiving it soon. It would be nice to know if their class is overfilled this year, just like last year. Who wants to call?? 🙂:finger on nose!)

I got the "rejection" letter today too. Oh well, so much for that hope. Good luck to those of you still in the running.

They said in early May that they had over accepted, and do not really expect the list to move. But I'm already in Nashville, and don't plan on moving to NOLA until late July anyway so might as well hope for the best but expect the worst.

Where did you read that about the over acceptance?
