God damn I wake up and have to read this Sh1T in the morning. Where is my phone call vandy. Maybe they realize its only 8am here right now.
 
Do those of you accepted mind sharing your stats? I just interviewed and am a long way from hearing but I'm curious
 
Did you guys who have received phone calls or letters interview at Vandy before 10/3? I know they said 6-8 weeks from interview date, but I was wondering if it really has been that long for you. Congrats everyone!!!

I had my interview in late August (first day, cant remember the date offhand)

The letter didn't get here today, but I expect the official document tomorrow!

Hey, FYI there's another batch of calls apparently going out today, as I just got it a little while ago! Good luck to all those in waiting.

well I really liked Vandy: the facilities were top notch, Nashville is a cheap place to live, I'm from TN so its home, the students seemed exceedingly happy, the weather doesn't make you want to commit suicide in February, and its reputation is up there with those other schools so that going to Vandy over Harvard wouldn't necessarily mean that I would be holding back my future potential to do what I want in my career. I'm probably not going to make a final decision until late April (the Vandy guy who called me with the acceptance said that second look weekend is probably going to be April 20th-ish) after I've spent a long time thinking about where I want to be for the next 4 years.

so, you interviewed on their first day? thus the first ones get accepted (yesterday)! i remember i interviewed on their third day. i still have hope.... still have hope!!!! god, i loved vandy....:scared:

I interviewed on the first day, sometime in late August (22nd-ish) as well...apparently with qm [I learned of sdn well after the fact].

Also, I second qm's views on Vandy. The students were as happy as any I've seen, I'm from the south (KY), and Nashville has alot going for it vs. schools I'm looking at in the northeast.

i'm in 🙂 my numb one choice!!! so i got a missed call last night at 9:19pm... i was napping as usual... i called back today after finding out that the number was the same as the one for QM... just a message... and i just called... no response... dean called back 😀

i'm SUPER EXCITED!!! and i am going to start canceling interviews today 🙂

oh, and i interviewed on 9/19

I'm sure they still are giving out acceptances this week...they aren't going to sit there all day and call people. The guy talked to me for at least 10 minutes about Vandy, and he is a physician (read: a busy person). farikanok was called by them from the same number so I assume he's going through the list of accepted applicants and it taking a while.

do you think it's by last name? lol
i'm waiting for a rejection/waitlist too...maybe i should've made my autobiography longer :scared:
 
also, i got a second call from them today (my heart was about to stop! lol). i told him that he called earlier, and he said that he had forgotten to check me off the list. so... there's a LIST, some other people will get phone calls tonight. also, the dr. calling is the Dean of Admissions.

Thanks for the reassurance, farikanok and qm... keep it coming. We need it. Especially those of us who are currently being made to feel like intellectual wastes of space by our problem sets. (Hmm, wonder whether qm has any Sakurai solutions sitting around?) 🙄

how long were you guys' autobiographies? mine is stuck at about 1000 words.

mostly recent years...frankly I've lived an easy life and my childhood was boring.

here's a good thing to do in the autobiography if you feel stuck: talk about your motivation to enter medicine, it is obvious that since you are applying to med school that the decision to become a physician was a major part of your life's story (I'm only 21, what else really could I talk about?)

I was at the limit, but I had 7 years of occasionally interesting things since graduation to talk about. I don't know what I would have done with it 7 years ago.

Unknown. We'd have to do some serious research in the (increasingly unlikely) event that I were to be admitted. Vandy and San Antonio were the only applications that I completed for places we were unsure of, just because I loved the schools and towns that much.

It's not impossible but also not certain, I guess, is the summary.

H for me as well. And for those who care, my autobiography was at least a couple hundred words short of max. Good luck to all.
 
I wrote to the page limit pretty much if I remember correctly. Oh well. At least I got to see the South 🙁
 
On a glum note, it will be interesting to see how many people get waislisted and/or rejected during this round of letters. If they're liberal with their waitlist maybe I should start considering this waitlist letter as the kiss of death after all.

the bad thing about Vandy is that they interview a bunch of people (a bit under 1000 I believe) for the 100 spots
 
Well they interview 900 for a class of ~ 100 so I bet they hand out around 250-300 LOA so we will see

No, I'm pretty much keen on Vandy in every way except that. And perhaps the cost, but at least Nashville isn't high cost-of-living, which would help.

I love small, friendly, southern schools, and their adjustments to their curriculum this year sounded great. But between Vandy and Baylor, my heart is getting broken this week. If San Antonio doesn't call in November, I'm just going to cry. 🙁
 
I hear ya, if Vandy doesnt come through my hopes will be all with UCLA
