I never realized how wide ranging the course loads of D1 and D2 years are at schools across the nation. TX schools are pushing 50+ credit hours per pre-clin year, while Temple has 36 credit hours its D1 year. I'm not crying over this because the TX tuition makes up 😀

But, what are yall's thoughts about this? Are we not all supposed to take roughly the same amount of classes during our pre-clin years since we all take the same NBDE part 1? Is anyone going to a program with D1 and D2 credit hours at either extreme (less than 36 or greater than 54)?

The way I see it is;

its not how many hours you are in class. It's all about passing the national exams. As far as I'm aware there is no credit minimum to become a dentist determined by the ADA. although each school has their own, which doesn't make sense cause you have to get a C or better in everything anyway.

According to the website, the first SEMESTER at Tennessee is 34 credit hours.

Depends on how the schools rate hours as well. It's pretty arbitrary and subjective.

Additionally, some schools have a course load tailored to prep you specifically for taking part 1 boards at a certain time. Others do not, and you are left to your own devices as how to prep and when to take it.
