I recently learned that North Carolina BOP has a rule that limits the total hours a pharmacist can work at 12 hours/day. I was also reading how the NC BOP placed a recommendation on the number of prescriptions a pharmacist can safely process per day and per hour. Here is an exerpt from their findings:
"In arriving at the 150-prescriptions-per-pharmacist-perday
threshold, the Board used information presented at the
National Association ofBoards ofPharmacy (NABP) Health
Law Officers Conference in Savannah, Georgia in November
1996. Experts on this program gave a range ofnot more
than 10 to 20 prescriptions per hour as established levels for
safe dispensing. A vice president for one national chain store
stated that its standard was five minutes per prescription for
technical functions only, which did not include patient counseling
and prospective drug utilization review. Their standard,
then, would be something less than 12 prescriptions
per hour."
Are there currently any other states that have limits on hours such as NC or limits on script counts?
