Would it be possible to create a Vascular Surgery forum under the Surgery forums? We have several vascular surgery discussion threads (including the application thread: 2017-2018 Integrated Vascular Surgery Interview Thread) as well as some regular and long time vascular surgery residents, fellows and attendings on SDN. It would be good to have a forum specific to vascular surgery issues and application tips for interested students and residents.

I think doing so would dilute the forum. The GS forum is already slowish/not as active and if you pull threads out of it into another subforum, they may get lost and you end up with the same people talking to each other rather than reaching a broader audience with a broader input from non-Vascular specialists.

I wouldn't support it (and SDN history is not subdivide less busy forums for that exact reason) but am willing to hear others thoughts.

I was thinking of parallels with IM forums, where there is a main IM forum for general discussions pertaining to IM (and IM residency application threads) and some specific IM subspecialty forums (with the rest grouped together as Other Subspecialties due to general inactivity).

So what I was thinking was to merge the Surgery Applications subforum back into the main Surgery forum (this would improve the Surgery forum’s activity while also having similarity with residency application threads in other specialty forums). The subforums would be the active surgical subspecialties forums and hopefully a Vascular Surgery subforum (based on general activity and representation). Whatever’s inactive could be merged into a new subforum called Other Surgical Subspecialties or just kept in the main Surgery forum.

Just a way to help ease forum navigation.

Yes I understood your suggestion.

The reason for the application sub forum was because the users complained about all the “official *****” and WAMC Threads clogging up the main page.

I still maintain that the surgery forum is not active enough nor is it difficult to find vascular surgery threads on the first page when the posts go back to March.

There’s also precedence: we have long said no to a sub forum for CT surgery for the same reasons. But again I’d like to see input from others including long-term members of that forum to see what people prefer because it’s never a bad idea to revisit these things.

Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 cause of death and will continue to rise...the field deserves it's own forum ;)

We could add thread prefixes to the forum (ie: Vasc, General, etc...)
