I have recently been accepted into VCOM auburn. I wanted to know yours thoughts on the school. The school has not graduated a class yet, so should i be concerned with how the match may turn out? Will i be at a disadvantage because its a campus during the match? all thoughts appreciated

There is no point to this thread. You already made one with KYCOM and VCOM-Auburn. You will get a better answer there. They are kind of neck and neck in my mind. Probably best to go with KYCOM being the cheaper option.

I'm from VCOM VA and the good thing about VCOM is because the new campus isn't starting from scratch- it isn't much of a gamble to go there. I've been to auburn to visit the site for rotations and its very southern, football, white frat boys and sorority girls, sweet tea and lemonade and HOT. The curriculum will mirror the other two campuses and you'll get a good education if you choose to go there. Their class will get a high first pass rate and everything. But if KYCOM is cheaper- I'd go there.

Thank you for your feedback! what are your thoughts on the curriculum? KYCOM has more of the traditional curriculum (first year: physio, anatomy, cell bio, biochem, and so on, and the second year is more what is wrong with the body: Pharm, Patho, micro). while VCOM has the organ-based curriculum. Do you also suspect the match rate for VCOM-auburn to mimic VCOM-VA's match rate, which I'm assuming to be at or near 100%

I would pick Auburn simply because it is Auburn, which is an awful justification for picking a school. You'll have tons of fun if you have bare minimum social skills; and if you are disciplined, you will get an excellent education as well.
Disclaimer: I am a football loving frat kid at a school where greek life is pretty suppressed

I interviewed and was accepted at VCOM Auburn. I was went to Auburn for undergrad. I can defnitely agree with the last post about going because its Auburn. It is a great place with friendly people. The school's faculty were super nice even when I turned them down. It was actually my number one choice, but ultimately I elected to go to a school in a bigger city so that my fiancee would have more job opportunities. I don't think you'll regret it. The campus is top notch and very nice.

I don't have a problem with our curriculum. I haven't been exposed to the traditional type so I can't comment on that too much but with what we have you see a lot of repetition. Some blocks are worse than others and some systems are worse than others. But overall, it provides a good basis. You're seeing anatomy, pharm, path every block for the first two years. we do the basic sciences the first block and you get some review here and there later on. And I assume the match rate will end up being similar. Step pass rates though might not. VCOM VA has had higher pass rates vs VCOM CC.

Thanks! Im trying to decide between KYCOM and VCOM-auburn and i am just having the toughest time. KYCOM is a little bit more established because it has been around longer. Are VCOM-auburn students lumped with the other campuses when we speak of the schools "reputation" and its track record?

Congrats to all accepted!

Be sure to check out the classified section for housing!

You can also look up the match list from VCOM CC., to see how it compares to VCOM VA. I mean for the most part both are pretty average I would say (although VCOM CC had a Rad onc which is surprising I don't care what D.O. school you go to) Now after having gone through nearly three years and starting the application process for residency, so much depends on what you do as an individual (i.e. boards) and which schools you apply to. Sure the schools reputation means something, but to me all the D.O. schools are kinda in the same boat unless you go to PCOM or something. Traditionally VCOM puts a ton of people into IM and family. Is that because they can't match more competitive residencies? I don't think so, it just what the student body is attracted to. When profs or docs come in and ask the students to raise their hands for what they want to go into, nearly half the class said family. So guess where most people are going to match.

I based my school choice off where I thought I was going to be happy living. If you were comparing VCOM to a competitive MD school or something I'd say think twice unless you really want to go DO, but as far as schools reputation don't worry about the match list. Take other things into account like curriculum, WHERE YOU WANT TO DO THIRD YEAR, etc.

For what it's worth I thought VCOMs program prepared me well for boards.

Hopefully the Auburn campus will have quality professors. CC often lacked professors and was forced to watch those at VA campus. Many of the top VA professors left to go to Campbell, but hopefully the new ones are just as good.

VA campus scores and VCOM scores in general are false and super-inflated. They only take the scores that are above 78% and count them. Thus it makes it seem like they are actually very high quality but reality is far from it.

The curriculum changes year to year. Some years have it better than others as the school is constantly changing bits and parts to pump out high pass rates.
Many of the lectures you will receive are not applicable to anything but the test. Make sure you read the text!! Make sure you start the day of classes on question banks!!!
You will not learn what is considered NORMAL. Make sure you know what all the NORMAL human stats are. You will not be tested on them but your COMLEX are very big on statistics and knowing what is NORMAL and what is not.

Make friends with the office staff and the Student Services Staff!!! They are your friends when all turn against you!!! And even for the best student these incidents do occur!!

For all VCOM campus goers, if you have the Cash then go on the mission trips, it is a good way to meet your professors and for them to see what you can do. You need to do more than one to get high marks.

Some of you will have a really good time and others will not. Due to the constantly changing curriculum this is to be expected. Don't expect your year will be like the one before you as your classes will be set up differently though the slides are the same.

Overall, Good luck.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, the school president is Dr Palmarozzi and Dr Dayberry is there in some capacity. Both have been training physicians for quite a while and are pretty good at it. Palmarozzi is no slouch so it should be a good school.
