VCOM (Carolinas)
Pros
  • Location - Spartanburg, SC (suburban) has got more going on than Lillington, NC (rural)
  • good clinical rotation sites are close (in Spartanburg)
  • 2 hours from home/family in Charlotte
  • In-person interview, got a good feel for the school and everyone seemed welcoming

Cons
  • traditional grading system for M1/M2
  • 70% mandatory lecture attendance policy
  • No affiliated residencies

Campbell
Pros
  • prepares students for COMLEX and USMLE
  • only an hour from research triangle (where a lot of friends live)
  • Optional lecture attendance
  • Affiliated residencies
  • Students seemed happy and welcoming

Cons
  • traditional grading system for M1/M2
  • Location - Lillington, NC, would either live in Fuquay (30 mins away, has restaurants and a Target) or Lillington (5 mins from campus, would have to drive further to grocery store and civilization)
  • good clinical rotation sites (Raleigh) are further (~an hour)
  • 3 hours from home/family in Charlotte

Summary: Class sizes are about the same (~160), Residency match rates are both ~99.5%; Tuitions are pretty much the same. Also, I'm really interested in Emergency Medicine! Please help and give me some insight into what you guys think!

Several friends from VCOM- Run don’t walk to Campbell. VCOM admin is not your friend and they do not care about you from what they’ve shared. It can be fine for some, but is definitely frustrating.

The CUSOM students I’ve met seem very happy, and do well on clinical rotations. That’s all I got
