Hey,

I posted a few months ago about some BS with the admissions at VCOM. As it so happens, they granted me an interview nonetheless. I am trying to decide if I should even go. I had put down a deposit at LECOM-SH. I love the school, PBL, and everything. Weather not so much. VCOM-CC would be 4 hrs away from home and my father thinks I should go for the interview. Right now, after putting down a deposit for LECOM and also a previous one for BCOM I am not sure I want to spend any money whatsoever. Regardless, to those who either were in a similar position, or are going to VCOM, what did you like or dislike. To be frank, I have zero intention on doing rural medicine and family medicine is maybe a speciality I would consider but not my first choice. I also hear that the lectures at VCOM are mandatory and I also believe tuition is higher at VCOM. As of now, I am leaning against going even for an interview. Also the fact that VCOM does not publish their match list is interesting and not in the good way.

Thanks for any input.

You can read walls of text about VCOM, but that won't really tell how you feel about the school until you actually check it out yourself. Since you live so close, all you have to lose is some gas and hotel money. I say go for it and check it out. Personally, I am going to go to PCOM-GA which I was also considering not going to the interview since I already got accepted to ACOM which I really liked. You might regret not going! Just do it!

Always a chance to see how other institutions do their thing. You won't get this experience again. I'd so go, especially with just a drive vs losing out on a plane ticket.

You'll either find a good fit or a strong affirmation "Wow, Seton Hill is exactly what I want."

Was in the same situation. Decided my wife and I would enjoy an interview together and just see what the school has to offer.

Ugh. These replies are so reasonable it makes it hard not go for an interview since my only argument against going is just laziness and also self-fulfilling prophecy which I totally admit are terrible reasons.

I'll give the admissions a call. I leave for vacation for 35 days between February 22nd and March 29th, so that also throws a wrench into interviewing soon.

@FCMike11 , if I remember correctly, you are still going to ACOM? Regardless, what are your thoughts on having mandatory lectures during Year 1 and Year 2? I know some enjoy the structure while others state it is a time sink. I may fall in the latter category, but not really sure.

Still exploring options. Mandatory lectures make me pretty hesitant. I view it as not compatible with my learning style. 1.) I do terrible listening to someone (while being forced to stay stationary - 45 minutes is my max concentration then i have to move around for at least 5 minutes), 2.) I have kids and the ability (generally - still have some mandatory things at any school) to structure my schedule around them would be very nice.

I love the idea of PBL. LECOM rotations worried me though. I have a friend who traveled a lot for his clinical years, which would make me miserable either constantly moving my family (not realistic) or being away from them. Would have likely gone there otherwise (interviewed at one campus and declined interview at other).

I declined my interview to VCOM and a few others due to a lack of desire to interview further or to spend any more money on this process. I feel those are valid reasons but only if you are fully content with the school you are accepted to as of now. I wouldn't have traded my acceptance I have currently for one at VCOM just based on location and attendance policies alone though... but since I never interviewed, I will never know if I would have loved the school more! Thats what you might lose out on by giving up an interview, up to you if it's worth it or not 🙂.
