Hi,
I've been accepted to VCOM and WVSOM. I have some questions about VCOM:
1. How will students there match without a school track record or class rank?
Hi and congrats on your acceptance. If you decide to take it, you will be going to class with a great bunch of people. As to this question, we will be the second class, so we are relying heavily on the class of 2007 to prove VCOM is a great school. That said though, the staff that has been chosen comes from well known schools. Dean Rawlins comes from KCOM, which as you know is the oldest school. She has a great reputation, which will work in our favor. Are you going on faith, ......yes. I feel if you work hard and get the grades and test scores that are good, you should have no trouble in matching.

2. Can you do rotations in yr 3 and 4 outside of Va?
2. Yes you can. There are rotations set up in WV, NC and I believe Kentucky.

3. Dress code???
3. Yes there is a dress code. You have to come to class dressed in a professional manner. VCOM believes you are entering a profession that demands professionalism and school is a great time to start getting used to it. You can wear scubs on lab day though which is great.

4. Any info on why you chose VCOM over other schools.
Anyway, I was really impressed when I interviewed there and would like to hear some good and bad stuff about the school.
Thanks!
4. I chose VCOM for a variety of reasons. I felt at home when I interviewed there in Sept. It just felt right. I was impressed with the staff and students and their geniune love for their school. I love the area and the mountains. I want to be a rural primary care doc, so their big push towards that is another reason I chose them. There is enough shopping and places to eat and enough to do with it being a college town and being near Radford and Roanoke there are more than enough things to do on our off time.
As to any bad things. I think the only one I can come up with is that the lunch room and break area is too small and there is only 1 shower for showering after anatomy lab. But since most students live near by, I guess that is why there is only 1. Other than that I can come up with nothing negative. I think the newness is a plus and I think in another 5 years VCOM will be well-known as one of the best DO schools.
Good luck with your decision
