Do most people wait for primary screening before submitting the secondary or is it like other schools where a lot of people just submit the secondary right away?

I got invited for an interview this morning. I have heard many great things about this school. I am really excited! I interview on 10/4, any advice?

Being put on hold this early in the application cycle usually means "no unless we can't fill our spots". I don't know about VCOM specifically but many schools do not start taking people from their hold list until Feb / Mar. You still have a chance, just not a great one. If they wanted to say no they would just say no.

May I ask: what's your MCAT / GPA?

I don't know how the addition of SC campus will change things this year but I think its safe to say that if they are taking the time to interview you, they already like you and you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

Can someone let me know the answer to this? I know it says that competitive applicants will be invited to complete the secondary but it's there and available online. I know other schools say the same thing yet recommend you submit it as soon as your primary is in.

I would wait. If they have had your primary for awhile maybe send an e-mail asking if your file, up to this point, is complete or if they need any other information. They do screen and decline people from filling out a secondary app so it may be a waste of your money and time to complete it before you know if they actually want you to complete it. They will be very honest with you and where you stand in the process if you send them an e-mail so if you're feeling ansty just inquire if they need anymore information to make a decision on your application at this point in the process.

Excellent advice and that answers my question! They haven't had my primary long but again my concern was primarily in whether or not they were a school who basically requests secondaries from everyone. If so, it would have made sense to just go ahead and send it in. Knowing that they screen and send invites tells me what I need to know. 👍

Does anyone know how this school views receiving "In the area" notices? I am driving to LMU-DCOM next week and then driving to WVSOM and VCOM is very close to WVSOM. If I could also interview at VCOM the same week it would really help out on all this travel. However, I do not want to be considered rude or inappropriate so I wouldn't send the note if it came off that way. I have seen on MD threads where people do this all the time but I had not seen this on DO threads. Thanks!

Just interviewed here today. The interview is extremely laid back and I can't tell you enough not to stress for this one. The staff is wonderful and the day was great. I can't wait to hear back if I am in or not, they said it would be this Thursday!

I've never seen it talked about on the osteo boards either but with that said VCOM is very laid back. It's worth calling - the most they can do is tell you no.

So I called up the school yesterday to make sure they had my letters which were sent out last week. They said they did. I still have not received the complete email yet. sigh. This process is making time go super slow!

The osteopathic book lists VCOMs estimated health insurance costs as $0. Did they not report the figure or do they cover all students?

Also, along the same lines, how plentiful are scholarships at VCOM?

I received an email yesterday stating that I would receive a packet in the mail with my email information in it approximately two weeks after my background check was processed. I should be getting all of the info sometime next week. I think they are still in the process of getting everything together, www.vcom.vt.edu/2016 is still missing a lot of helpful information.

how long were you complete for? Its been 2 weeks for me not a peep ..Im too scared to call =(

Complete email 10/11. Keep in mind it took about a month and a half from submission to the complete email and then they say it takes another 3-4 weeks after that for the Committee to look at your application. I wouldn't worry too much. I spoke with one of the admissions folks last week and she said that they have been doing a lot of traveling and have been super busy.

Super laid back. Just a tour of campus, Blacksburg, and local housing. There are 3 interviews all of which are really conversational and just trying to get to know you. Don't stress I promise it is nothing to worry about just be yourself. Good luck 🙂

Just got invited to fill out the secondary app for VCOM. It seems they presecreen this but do most people still get asked to fill it out? Also do most people who get invited to fill out the secondary get invited for an interview as well?
