Hello all,

I got an email from Megan Price (nicest admissions lady in the world) saying:

We thank you for taking the time to submit an application to the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Your application is scheduled to be reviewed by committee. The purpose of committee meeting is to determine whether or not to invite you to submit a Secondary Application and letters of recommendation. Once we have the opportunity to evaluate your application, we will be certain to follow-up with you regarding your status.

Now I was just wondering, is VCOM like other schools (i.e., Western, NYCOM) in the sense that they only invite you to do a secondary if you're invited for an interview? Or will they just simply invite me to complete the secondary and after submitting that will rereview my file and then possible invite me for an interview?

hey, i noticed in another thread that your aacomas application went out the same date mine did (10/15) and i also just recently received that email from vcom. how amusing. i think vcom goes about their admissions process like a majority of other schools, reviewing your file when you turn in your secondary and then granting you an interview invite.

They are screening your primary. Then they may send you a secondary. Then they may invite you for an interview.

They are screening your primary and then they will decide if you get a secondary. THEN they screen secondaries and decide who gets an interview. Just like almost all med schools....

I'm sorry I misread your response. I thought you were saying they could send me a secondary or they could straight invite me for an interview.

I got the exact same email from VCOM in the beginning of August saying they would review me for a secondary.....I never recieved a response after that🙁 but im not too flustered as I didn't really want to go there....eithe I didn't pass their cut whatever it is or they simply forgot about me....oh well I already interviewed at CCOM and LECOM(and got accepted) so ....but i did indeed get that email a long time ago

Did anyone get a call from VCOM today? I was here at the lab and the dean of admissions called me to make sure I'd received the secondary application. I told her I just dropped it in the mail yesterday and she said she'd look forward to calling me back to schedule and interview. Anyone else get this? I'll take this as a good sign.

I havent yet finished my secondary for VCOM. But someone told me that they have already interviewed 1200 people. This is making me worried because I dont think I'll get an interview until january. Does anyone know how long it took for you to get your secondary applications after being verified? My GPA is great (3.6) but my MCAT is a 23. I know VCOM looks at the GPA more but is the MCAT gonna destroy me? Also, what was the turnaround time after you sent in the secondary?

I first got that email and then I got another email saying they are waiting on my grades from this semester. Does VCOM only send secondaries to those they invite for an interview? Does anyone know for sure?

i don't know if they only send secondaries to people they wanna interview, but someone on the admissions committee told me that they definitely screen primary apps to assess whether you move on or not. i'm in the same boat as you, they want to see my first semester grad school grades before i can hear back.

I went to the Open House in October. I believe they said out of those who submit a primary, about half get invited to fill out a secondary and about half of those are interviewed for around 160 seats. So from that I dont believe everyone who gets a secondary gets invited for an interview. I dont know how many ppl they interviewed but 1200??...that sounds like a lot, where did they get that from?

You must be sitting pretty good in the eyes of the admissions committee. I don't know of many schools which will go out of their way to make sure you've received their secondary materials.

When I got home from school tonight, I had a voice mail from someone at VCOM. I couldn't quite make out the name. Sounded like B Jones??? I was complete on 2/14, and got an email saying I would get a phone call if I were selected for interview. I'm REALLY hoping that's what the voice mail was for, but the person (female) said to call back as soon as possible to talk about my application. I'm going to be dying to have to wait until morning to call back. Does anyone know if this is good news- they don't call to reject you, do they? Also if anyone can help me with the name of this person, I would really appreciate it. I will feel dumb calling back and asking for the wrong person. Thanks so much in advance and congrats to all who have already been accepted! 🙂

I just got off the phone with Bea Jones. It is for an interview!!! 😀
I'm so excited. I have been anxiously waiting for this one. The first available day was March 21st. Wish it was sooner, but I'm not complaining!
The interview yesterday went very well. Hopefully good news, but I really like VCOM!👍 Would be nice to have the "problem" of deciding between the two.

I was complete on 2/14/07. They emailed me when I was complete and said I would either receive a call for an interview or not hear anything, meaning I would still be under review. You may want to call to see if you are complete. Good luck.

Nope, not yet..fingers crossed..I was complete on 2/13 and got the e-mail from Megan..I have not been home yet..so I don't know if they called..I hope soo..
