Hi I am working on VCOM essay question

2) Professionalism and the ability to gain respect in the community in which you live is of utmost importance as you embark upon a career as a physician. What three professional qualities do you feel a Student Doctor must be able to demonstrate as he/or she makes the transition into the study and practice of medicine. How will you demonstrate those qualities as a medical student at VCOM?

The first paragraph I have stated the three qualities and why they are important. The second question is how will I demonstrate these qualities as a medical school student? Can I explain this in the second/third paragraph that I have demonstrated these qualities with my family, and how I have used them effectively and the progress I made? Essentially being able to already use them effectively and that is how I will demonstrate it at VCOM.

Or should I not use the family example and instead say hypothetical how I would use them at VCOM? I feel like this approach doesn't have much weight but I'm not really sure.

This is my first time doing secondaries, can anyone help me?

I think it's fine to use your family example as long as you say how you will also use those qualities as a medical student at VCOM and why they are important for a Student Doctor to have specifically.

I agree, you could use your family. Just make sure that the example you are building on demonstrates yourself. If you talk about just your family the adcom might learn more about your family and not you.

VCOM has a very specific mold of student they look for. They want outgoing, professional, and hard working students that are committed to primary care; they're willing to overlook poor scores in some cases in order to achieve this. Any secondary question you answer should be with this in mind.

I interviewed here, really loved the place in many ways, and in general the students seemed much more happy and sociable than elsewhere.

I agree with what posters said above, but make sure you do not stray from the question. You want to talk about who you are, of course, but make sure the answer to the question is obvious. It's not just "well, this is what he/she has done..."

Yea that is exactly what I am going for. Essentially I state my qualities and then present the scenarios where I used them and how I used them. However I don't say "Here I used X, here I used Y, here I used Z" with the examples. Because I felt that would just look terrible and bare bone

I had examples where I spoke about experiences with my family and how I used my qualities to better their health. This is why family medicine or primary care is something I am interested in. Does that work?

They sent the secondary out already?

I got mine the 28th! Not to long ago! Don't worry, some people take longer or get it faster. I just got my RVC today even though some people got them the 21st. Contact them for any questions.

Go VCOM go. Be yourself in all the essays and use personal examples. You will be fine. Good luck.
