Hey everyone I am applying to this program and look forward to the opportunity!! I hope everyone has the best of luck!
Hey drchik4life, I am also applying to this program, have you heard anything back?

No I haven't applied to the program yet but I plan to finish my application this week! Are you already applied! Best of luck to you!!

I was delayed because I didnt get my MCAT scores back until jan 6th

No I am probably gonna finish my application this week too.

Hello everyone. I'm also applying to this year's program. Good luck with your applications! From looking on past forums, it appears people began hearing back around April at the earliest

Once people start getting in, it would be awesome if i could find a roommate on here. Would love to live with someone who is also in the same program.

Hey all! Just got my acceptance to this program, anyone else get theirs yet??

I'm planning to apply this week. Have you all already taken your mcat or will you be taking the new one by September to fulfill the guaranteed admission requirement? I'm wondering what the new mcat score minimum will be.....

Is this program only for minorities and poor people? What about someone who lives in a rural area?

Congrats! Still waiting over here.

When was your app submitted/confirmed complete?

Thank you!
I applied mid December, but know that they didn't start looking at applications until Mid January. Good luck to you!!

I have taken the MCAT but will probably take it again just to improve my score in case (yikes!) the post-bacc program doesn't go well. I thought I saw somewhere that they are thinking about requiring the new MCAT score to be in the top 43% of test scores? Maybe I saw that on a comparable program's site (words start to blend together lol). My big concern is that the 2013 class only had a 46% acceptance to MD or DO school- much lower than previous years. Good luck!!

I think the 46% is because some people will get in the year after to DO schools. Someone who graduates with say a 3.5GPA has to apply after completing the post bacc.

Hey everyone,

Congratulations to those who have been accepted into the program, and to those who haven't, hang in there! I was accepted at the very beginning of the month, but I applied in the early in December. As far as the new MCAT 2015 scores, I believe it's the 43rd percentile you're referring to, so definitely more doable (and reasonable) than the top 43% (technically, they'd list it as the 57th percentile or above--yay statistics hah), but who knows lol. Looking forward to orientation!

Definitely not too late to apply now. I am currently in the post bacc and I wouldn't be going to med school if I had not done it. It was the perfect program for me.

That being said, I have decided to buy an apartment and have a lease on one as well for the upcoming year so I will be sub-leasing an apartment that is only about two hundred feet away from the post bacc building. It has a loft that is great for studying, will come somewhat furnished and it has been the perfect place to live for this program in my opinion. I am only moving one floor down so I may have access to the back yard for my dogs next year. If anyone has any questions about the program or is interested in subleasing my apartment feel free to send me a message. Good luck!
Hi Ive applied to this program if Im accepted I will definitely be interested in the apartment. I was also wondering if you would mind sharing your stats at the time you entered the program; Im just wondering how good my chances are

Hi docgirl, my undergrad GPA wasn't quite usual, I took a bunch of classes while playing junior hockey to stay sharp and didn't really do much in them so once that factored in with my 4 year college I had a 3.0 (both) and a 23. They are really more interested in your GPA in the program and your MCAT when they consider post bacc students in my opinion. If you get into the program it is up to you and how much studying you put in to get into the med school. Good luck getting in and contact me if you have any questions about the apartment.

Hello everyone, just got my acceptance in the mail this morning. Still waiting on a couple other post-bacs but will most likely be attending VCOM as it is my first choice.

Also, be sure to check your spam email box as that's where I found my acceptance letter. Good luck to everyone still waiting

Congratulations argle_bargle! May I ask when you applied and what that stats upon applying?

Thank you! I applied mid-February and my app was confirmed complete by VCOM the last week of February. I can definitely tell you stats/extra curricular etc. if you want to PM me.

I'm really curious to learn about the 46% as well. Has anyone emailed the staff or do any past students want to chime in on the possible reasons for this lower acceptance?

Hi argle. I tried pm-ing you but it said that I cannot pm you

Just got the acceptance email today and it was found in my spam folder. So definitely check your spam 🙂
I am also curious about the 46% matriculation. In the email they also said that they offer guaranteed admission to COM given that we finish with a 3.6 GPA with no grade lower than B for both Fall and Spring semester and a 24 MCAT.
I find this program to be pretty solid given that they actually state exactly what we need to do to get into the DO program, while other post bacc program doesnt explicitly state so. One thing though: no federal loans for this program.
And does anyone know how hard it is to maintain a 3.6 GPA for both semester?
Thanks a lot 🙂

Does anyone also know how many students do they seek to accept this year?

I was wondering the same thing myself when I first saw the stats. When I went to their fall 2014 open house, some of the current students who attended the post-bac in 2013 said that it was just a tough year and that it's all effort based. There were quite a few national honors students who attribute their success to having attended the post-bac. It definitely sounds like it is all effort based.

While I can't directly say how hard it is to get a 3.6 GPA in this particular program, I have gone through an accelerated master's program and while it was tough to keep up with courses and performing thesis research, a 3.6 GPA was doable. You just have to put your mind to it 🙂.

Glad to see more people are getting their acceptances!

Hello everyone. I've recently been accepted as well into the program. I am down to get a Facebook group going for all of us who have been accepted and will be selecting VCOM as their school of choice this year.

My Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/byannotti

Also, has does anyone plan to take the MCAT before January (2016)? If so, are you currently studying? Good luck to everyone still applying and awaiting their news. Keep me posted with the Facebook group. I would love to start networking with everyone.

I'm actually scheduled to take the MCAT in a couple of weeks. Even though I haven't taken it yet, my advice is to start studying ASAP. I started studying in September, partly because I work night shift full time, but also because there is a lot of new material that wasn't covered in my undergraduate and graduate classes. They have a lot of free resources too that are helpful with starting a study plan (Khan academy has a whole series devoted to the MCAT subjects) and I definitely recommend getting the AAMC study question packs. I've used mostly those and it's a great way to diagnose what subjects you may need to spend more time on.

anyone know how many students get accepted into the program? Is it pretty competitive to get into?
Thanks!

Hello everyone, I found some interesting information on one of their pages and I'm not really sure I understand it and was wondering if anyone else saw it.

"The Post-Baccalaureate is a Professional Certificate Course approved by the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) and since VCOM only sought certificate status for the course, it will not appear in the GPA calculation on the AACOMAS profile. As a SCHEV approved Professional Certificate Course, many of the Virginia colleges do accept the courses for credit."

Does this mean that the credits for the post-bacc are only accepted in the state of Virginia? What if I am from out of state and don't get accepted at that particular med school and apply elsewhere, do the credits and GPA of my post bacc don't count?

Thanks in advanced

I applied for the program on March 3rd I believe and just received an acceptance email yesterday afternoon, so it seems that a two month turn around is about standard.

Hi I just got accepted to this program and would like to know more info on the work load and apartments. I am from NY and dont know much about VA. Please pm me back. Thank you.
