VCU Deadline and LORs

Ok so they updated the status page today by putting your Deadline for the completed file. I sent in all my stuff on time, but my LORs still don't show up and they were sent from my school on 8/24. My deadline for a completed file was 9/5. I gave them a call on Monday to see if they had received my LORs and the lady said that its most likely in the pile and with last week having the office closed beacuse of the hurricane they got backed up. She said it would appear most likely at the end of the week, but nothing still. Should I give them a call to see if everything is ok with my file?

I'm in the same boat as you...had letters sent a little later than you, and they show that everything has been received except the LORs. I was going to call today, but didn't think about it till now, and they're probably closed since it's after 5 over there. It sounds like it's a problem on their end, so I doubt it'll cause your application to be tossed out.

I didn't realize they had a *deadline* (as opposed to a mere "deadline"). I just went and checked, and mine was apparently 9/5. But I still have access to everything, it seems. Very strange.

so i just went to check my status - lors sent in on 8/20 and as of yesterday they were still not r'cd - and i got this message:
Server Error in '/admissions' Application.

Hmm. They must be really backed up, because it only took ~ 2 weeks for my status page to be updated.

LORs sent ~8/13, posted as received 8/30
handwritten essay sent ~8/30, "received" 9/13/04.

So, does that one month deadline apply to LORs, too? I thought it was just the secondary form and fee... sounded like you had longer to get your handwritten essay and LORs in. Am I wrong?

I think the one month deadline counts for LORs. As I understand it, you have 2 weeks to get your secondary in, and 1 month to complete your file (ie handwritten essay, LORs, fee).

Don't worry y'all.. I wrote them an e-mail about this exact issue.. seems like a lot of us have the same problem. They can't drop us all right?!

he said they are very strict on the deadlines. there is a very strict one month deadline. in any case, he was like "well you can always apply next cycle." yes he basically really did say that.... 😱

i told him that my LOR were the only thing missing. he said that they were probably in a pile that have yet to be updated. the thing is that...if you look at the application procedures it says that LOR can be in until Jan or something like that. but i didnt realize that. i asked him about my LOR and he said yeah they have to be in within a month. but the webpage is giving me a total difft answer (does someone want to verify this?).

in any case im not sure if i should be comforted by this or not? on one hand he is saying something and on the other hand the webpage say something else for LOR.

So I sent in some individual recommendations about a week ago b/c I figured it would be quicker than asking for another committee LOR to be sent. They still say they havn't received them. So I called today for the third time, and the guy said he received about 20 calls today for the same problem, and that he would have to call me back after they check everything out. It seems like since there's so many of us that have this problem that they would get it straightened out pretty quick, so let's hope they do.

the guy really tried to be helpful and he was nice...but he almost made me pee in my pants when he basically told me to wait until the next application cycle.... 😡 i hope this whole thing works out....although ive never been VA...i dont think i would mind moving to a more suburban atmosphere...

ok now I have a problem too. my deadline is put as 9/5 but when I had logged on for the first time it was Aug 19th and the website said I had 30 days to complete the application.

I still need to send in the hand written essay, does that mean I'm screwed?

Did you get the email telling you to go to the site on 8/5? Or is the 9/5 date a mistake on their part? If it's the former, you dropped the ball. It seems like they are strict on these deadlines, but you should call them first thing tomorrow and explain your situation.

Ok I'm going to call them up. Whats the phone number everyone is calling cause I always have trouble finding it on their webpage? I really would love to go to VCU and this would be crap if all of us dont even get our applications looked at because of this delay in their office and because of the weather. Every other school processed my recommendations in about 10 days, yet VCU is the only one that hasn't done a thing. Disappointing.

This is EXACTLY why I asked before! The way I read the site, it's you have two weeks to get your secondary in, a month for the fee and handwritten, and LORs by January. 😕 😕 😕

im still worried. my LOR should have gotten there some time ago...but it has not been updated in the system. the system still shows incomplete with a due date of 9/5/04. However all my other stuff (besides LOR) were there before 9/5/04. i hope they understand that they said the LOR should be in by January...otherwise many people are going to be screwed.

I'm in the exact same situation. My deadline was also 9/5 and everything was in way before then. I called the admissions people on Friday and they said not to worry about the LORs cause I think they have been pretty backed up. My school sent the recommendations on 8/24 so it is stressful to think that they haven't received them yet. I'll wait til end of week before I get really concerned.
Either way I'm going to be put on hold until my August mcat scores come in.

I am updated and it says that my file is complete. My letters came in after their "deadline".... We should all be okay... I think they know that they messed up with the online system somewhere.

I know ...... my pre-health committee meets only once per year for the people who takes April MCAT and they met on 9/14 and sent out 9/15....so I don't know if I am screwed yet or not.......nothing on the webpage though.

Hey everyone, how long did it take from the time you mailed your handwritten essay and the time it showed up on the status check? I mailed the essay last Monday (the 20th) via priority mail. The online check still doesn't show it as received, and I'm worrying because the USPS tracking doesn't show delivery.

ok...so i called them this morning. I told them that i had already sent my stuff in on the 9th of sept. (the deadline for me was 9/16) but my status page was still not updated.

the lady asked me to resend all my stuff (tuition form, fee and essay 😡 ) again. She also extended my deadline to october.

she also said that the school would only charge me once since i'll be sending them a second check in mail.

The school if friggin disorganized as hell 😡 😡 😡

I am getting my masters right now at MCV/VCU and I have never seen such a disorganized institution. For example - about 2 or 3 weeks into year, I received a letter in the mail saying I had been accepted to the program. Upon getting "accepted" to their post-bacc program last year, I never really received an official acceptance letter in the mail or any information for that matter. I called the head of the department before classes and he said, "yeah, well you're on the list I have so you must be accepted." The place is absolutely ridiculous.

I may be just a little OCD, but I really wanted to be complete before my August scores, and some part of me thinks its not going to happen. At what point do you think contacting them will be too much? (I know I'm trying to be patient)

i dont know.... but im getting to the breaking point. i have called three times [only gave my name once, though, so hopefully they dont have caller i.d....] -- the first time they said that there was major back up and to call back a week later if i still wasnt updated. called back a week later, and someone put me on hold for like 15 min and apparently found my LORs and said not to worry about it. 2 weeks later, i still wasnt updated so i called again and they said, again, not to worry about it. give me a friggen break. if some guy was able to find my LORs, why wouldnt he have updated me right then and there?? i dont want to be too obnoxious, but c'mon now.

I called them today regarding my handwritten essay. I sent it by priority mail on the 13th and it still hasn't shown up as received. The lady I spoke to was very nice. She said that they were backlogged and will hopefully update peoples' statuses today. She even took down my name and number to call me back if she runs across my essay.
