This is a thread dedicated to the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am truly grateful to have been accepted here and cannot wait to start!

The Medical college of Virginia used to be an independent medical institution until 1968, when it merged with the Richmond Professional Institute to form Virginia Commonwealth University. I understand alot of people are confused about the naming! The Medical College of Virginia has a great reputation, great facilites, a giant hospital, awesome location (heart of richmond) and renown professors. The professor of physiology at MCV (Dr. Costanzo) wrote the physiology textbook used at every medical school in the country. she also writes USMLE questions. Before taking step 1, she meets with every M2 individually and helps create a study schedule tailored to the student. The students at this school seem really happy and cooperative. Can't wait to start! Hope to see some of you at second look!

I found some cool pictures on google.

Egyptian Building: Built in 1845, it stands as one of the university's oldest buildings. I think M1s and M2s have some classes here.

Hunton Hall Student Center: Newly renovated just last year! This building is where part of Patch Adams (the movie) was filmed. Patch Adams is an alumnus and visits the school every now and then.

I couldn't find pictures of the newly constructed cancer center, and the main state of the art medical school buildings. I believe MCV is building another critical care hospital and medical school building.

Congratulations to all those who got accepted and good luck to those still waiting:luck:

We´re very proud of you and congratulations, but they have threads for each school´s entering classes on the Allopathic forum. Go there and meet your classmates.

Costanzo is great but I don't think her book is used in EVERY medical school in the country.

Congrats! My fiance is an M1 there. It's my first choice as well. For a city of its size Richmond is a really awesome place. Are you currently living in Virginia?

Those pictures are amazing.

This thread is amazing. Everyone is right, I bet. 😱

Wow that's awesome that your fiance is an M1 there, another good reason to go! yeah i'm currently living in virginia so the in-state tuition is definitely a plus!

stop telling other people how great it is, mmmcat! some of us haven't gotten in yet....and need those stellar applicants to go elsewhere. :meanie:

I'm sorry beachblonde!!! will you be hearing on Feb 1st? Good luck!!:luck::luck::luck:

I've been kicked off of the premises of the second picture so many times for skateboarding. MCV is great, and as a VA resident it's definitely in my sights. Currently, I use it for the fact that there is a McDonald's at some place in the hospital right next to Richmond City Hall.

Good luck, and leave the skaters at Hunton alone! : p

vcu is definitely one of my favorite schools. i was put on the hold "we MAY not be able to interview you" list several months ago, has anyone made it off of the hold? I'd def like to go down to richmond and see the school for myself.

VCU had some of the nicest looking buildings I've seen (inside and out). They're so pretty!

and if Dr. Costanzo teaches half as well as she writes textbooks, being in her class will be awesome. (although at this point I should say "would be awesome"...)

same here. I called the admissions today and they told me that they interview through mid March. Don't give up. There's still hope.

Congrats mmmcat!

Thanks Instatewaiter! You've been very helpful to all VCU/MCV applicants on SDN. We all really appreciate it!

Try not to worry beachblonde. I didn't get hold/decision message until about a day or two before the release date. I'm rooting for you!:luck:

lol. i'm not much of a mcdonald's fan, but the alpine bagel is definitely great! They also have alot of amazing vendors all around campus 😀

For awesome, you'll have to stop by 2101 W. Main Street.

Dr. Costanzo is one of the best professor at VCU. Students usually rate her as one of the best professors.

I was placed on hold like 3 months back and today got an email for an interview. IM EXCITED. I have a question though. I am scheduling my interview online and they give times such as 10am-11am or 2pm-3pm. So the interview at VCU IS NOT an all day thing like it is at the other schools I have interviewed at? I was thinking about flying in that morning and scheduling an interview for that afternoon if the interview isn't an all day thing. Anyone interview here this year and could share some info on this? Thanks.

Its is an all day thing like other schools. Dean of Admissions and Fin. Aid begin their presentation at 11AM followed by tour and lunch, if you are interviewing in the afternoon you will have like 30 minutes to reach your interviewer's office.

Thanks, do you know where I can find specifics about the interview day schedule and what not? or does anybody?

Its available on your status page if I am not mistaken.

I think the application status page contains all of the interview details.

Here's what my interview day was like, (I scheduled for 10:00am)

I show up to the admissions office waiting room at 9:45am and just chilled with the other interviewees. At 10:00am we were all handed a sheet of paper that had directions to our interviewer's office. Those of us scheduled for 10:00am left the waiting room and head on to our interviews. There is only 1 interview that is scheduled for about an hour. At 11:00am, those of us that had completed our interview returned to the waiting room. All of us then proceeded to a financial aid presentation and a welcome from the dean of admissions. This goes till about 12:00pm. At 12:00pm, 2 medical students will then take the whole group for a tour of the campus. This is followed by lunch. The tour and lunch should be over at around 1:45pm and that should be the whole day. Those that still had their interviews waited in the waiting room. Hope this helps! and good luck:luck:

does anyone know when and how vcu is going to send out decisions regarding a mid februrary interview. thanks

March 15th's the big day. You might want to look for the VCU/MCV 2008 Central thread, you'll find more info there. This thread is mostly people gushing about VCU (not altogether a bad thing, but maybe not what you're looking for).
