Hi guys,

I have an interview coming up at VCU/MCV (out-of-state with below avg. GPA and above avg. MCAT, not extremely above or below in either aspect)...it seems like a phenomenal place to go to school! Any students have anything interesting/of note to mention or say about the school?

Thanks!! 🙂

I just interviewed at VCU/MCV. I was more impressed than I thought I was going to be. Things noteworthy about the school is the history (the student center used to be an old civil war hospital), the use of web boards like these that students and professors use to ask and answer questions, the numerous computer labs... the medical library is also very nice... also the hospital is a trauma 1 center and serves some insanely large population like half the state of virginia, although I would check that stat. The egyptian building is also pretty neat.

Oh, the number one thing I was impressed with was our student guides. They seemed very professional and reflected well on the school.

The bad things about it include Richmond itself. I guess if you're not use to nice big cities it would be okay, but it's not really a happening place to be while you're in your twenties. The only public transportation is the bus system and the airport is tiny. Also, the whole city is kind of a bad neighborhood.

I wouldn't sweat the interview. It was pretty laid back although very long.. mine was over an hour. Good luck!

I lived in Richmond for 3 years before coming to Chicago. The whole city is NOT a bad neighborhood - you likely only saw the areas around downtown, and they do leave much to be desired. Much of Richmond is quite nice but if you are used to suburbia it will be a big change. The Fan district of Richmond reminds me of some of the neighborhoods in north Chicago (lots of row houses, local grocers/bakers/restaurants, etc). Don't let the area around the school fool you into not considering it.
