I read on here awhile ago someones breakdown of VCU's priority score system. It stated that there were 3 scores; 1, 2, and 3(based on the 3 different messages). I received the following message when my application was reviewed:

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we may be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to, you will be notified by e-mail. "

I assummed this meant I had a priority score of 2, according to what was previously posted on this board. I called today since I had not heard anything in a long time and was immediately offered an interview. The fellow was very nice and said, "Oh, you have a very high priority score, so let me set you up with an interview now. Will you be in the area anytime soon?" Hearing that I would say that there is a wide range of priority scores, not just 3. The 3 messages just indicate the immediate action that the school is taking (ie interview, rejection, hold for interview).

If there are more than 3, it's a change. The dean of admissions described the 3 priority system in a presentation last fall. Maybe this year, because of the additional application load, they've created more stratification.

Straight from the dean's mouth:

The file is presented before a comittee of ~30 people. The interviewer is your candidate/defense. After the defense, the ~30 people vote from 1(highest)-5(no way). the high and low are thrown out. The rest is averaged, and you come out with a score that is somewhat an objective assessment in a subjective process. Pretty fair if you ask me. They take people from the list that meet a certain number. I.E. this month we will accept in-staters that meet the score 3.4 and above (all the way up to 1's), and we will accept 2.4's and above from out-of-staters. In essense, this is the process.

Does the 5 point scale apply pre-interview this year as well (rather than 3, as I heard)?

That is why I said in a previous post, if you have been on a pre-interview hold for more than 6-8 weeks , CALL THEM.

I can't stress that enough. I have known a whole lot of people who called and were told what you were about having an interview time available and can they come that week.

And they do have 2 score systems, one for pre-interview and then one for post-interview.

i called and asked about my application status being on hold and the secretary said she couldnt look at my priority score and that I was just going to have to wait it out. Did you ask to talk to an admission's officer or something?
