I got this from my status page today:

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we may be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to, you will be notified by e-mail.

<annoying chandler voice> Can they be anymore vauge??

Does anyone know what this means or know how the priority scores work?
Is this a really nice rejection or a pre interview hold?

well, i'm complete at VCU/MCV and i havent received that message.
it really sounds like it's a pre-interview hold to me. rejections tend to be clear, something like: "i am sorry to tell you that xxxx school of medicine will not be reviewing your file" or "you will not be considered" or some other key phrase like that.
it really sounds like many medical schools are having a really hard time keeping up with the number of applicants each year. the number keeps rising and it's hard on the admissions office. the school has a commitment to serve the state and area that supports it, so i'm sure they'll give you more info once they have an idea.
best of luck!

Pratik, did you get an auto-generated email notifying you of your status change? I hate compulsively looking every few hours...

They send you an email telling you that your page has changed and that you should go and look.

as code brown said...they tell you to check

this is the exact message i got. it is slightly different than what you posted.

The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us as soon as we are able to schedule you.

is this the same one you received, or are they sending out different messages to different priority scores>

capt

The priority score is a number from 1 to 5 (1 being the highest priority). Once they review and score your application, you simply become a number to them. They use this score and obviously interview all of the 1s first, then continue to move down the list.

Pratik7 - I got the same message as you. I interpret it as a pre-interview hold (or prolonged rejection in my opinion). Ah well, c'est la vie.

captbadass - that is a different message than Pratik7 and I received. Sounds to me like they want to give you an interview, and are trying to keep you interested while they find space for you.

They don't sound the same to me. The other email said he may or may not get an interview. Yours says you WILL get an interview but they just don't know when.

thanks for the help. I emailed them and asked them my priority score 😀

To those with invites, when were you complete?

8/24 complete, 9/8 invite

if you do a search on sdn, there is a person reasonably broke down all the different email messages and wrote what each meant...

just because ive been off sdn for a while, ill be helpful for once. Credit to Herpeto for posting this last year~~~

They interview all the 1's, fewer 2's, and rarely 3's as they come up."

Message one Priority Score=1
"You have been invited for an interview" (I'm not exactly sure what the message states because I have not received this yet)

Message two Priority score=2
"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we may be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to, you will be notified by e-mail."

Message three Priority score=3
"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

i see they may have expanded their point system (1-5) from last year (1-3). but last year's information can still be relevant.

I interviewed at VCU early sept. and I was told the majority of acceptances go out in dec and so on from there. so don't worry..for VCU its pretty much early in the game..and they seem to treat all their applicants in a fair manner..good luck 🙂

My friend got the same exact email and then yesterday she got the interview invite. So just hang on...looks like you may get an interview. 🙂

im seriously going nuts. im not even complete at vcu yet, even though LORs were sent out mid-august -- i talked to a guy yesterday who said he finally found them, but they *still* have not been put into the system. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. for those of you who are schedualing interviews right now, how far out are they going?

at least its not already out to, like, february..... thank god for small favors?

I got the same message as Pratik7 yesterday.....and today I was offered and interview invitation! It is my first so I am really excited! My interview is Oct.26 (complete in early August). 😀

Basically, VCU ranks all there applicants on a 1.0-5.0 scale (with every breakdown in between) based on your GPA, MCAT, LOR, experience, etc.

They give interviews to either 3.0 and up or 3.5 and up once you are ranked this can't be changed. So maybe you fall just below that?

pratik7

I just got the same ambiguous message from VCU. What the f***! They may not have time between now and February 05 to interview?! Why even bother telling us! Oww! I am starting to develop an ulcer.... 😕 😡

😀 Ok, maybe I should not have been so annoyed by their vague email (VCU). I received that weird message: may be you will get an interview....maybe you won't message yesterday 10/6. Today I got an interview (10/7) for 11/2!

I should hope for the best

Completed 8/24, Interview offered 10/7

Interviewed last year late in the game and was placed on the waitlist. Rejected day classes started.

Anyone care to guess when my application will get some kind of response? I was complete 9/23. Or, put another way, has anyone received a response with a complete date around 9/23?

I was complete 9/19, got my interview invite today (10/7). My interview is Nov. 4th.

complete 9/25

invite received on 10/7

interview date 11/8

good luck to everyone else 👍

complete 9/13

no word yet

interviewed on oct 6 nice place.

the message u got is basically a hold for interview message. the priority score everyone is talking about is after your interview. a hold for interview means that if they need some more peeps for an interview u will be considered.

thanks for your help...you all are the best. I have a interview with Dr. Hoban on the 3rd 😀

How did you find out who your interviewer is? Did you call the school, or did it show up on your status page?

yea that's a good question...how do you know who's interviewing you?

Hey liverotcod,

I was completed 9/24 and got the dreaded message today:

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we may be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to, you will be notified by e-mail.

So I don't know.....I, however, emailed Dr Heldberg my continued interest in the VCU-SOM ..... we will see if anything changes........

Good Luck :luck:
