Hi guys,

my parents screwed me over big time. when i first came to this country i was registered with the name of alxxx but they also registered me as xxxx with the state. So i have used xxx all the time except if it is an offical document for federal purposes then alxxx. All my application stuff is under xxx but one document is under Alxxx (dat scores) so none of the schools recieved the scores and i just found out about it today. So i am contacting every school.. life is a bitch ain't it?

So your legal name is xxx? What country did you come from? I don't mean that to be rude. I'm just curious.

wow, that's annoying... i hope you can get all that straigtened out okay 🙂 speaking of names, does anyone know what kind of proceedures you have to take regarding dental school/financial aid/bills for housing expenses and all that if you change your name (for example, get married) while in dental school? does everything that is in your name get switched automatically or do you have to fill out lots of extra paperwork?

Too bad that it happened. But you shouldn't use "screw" word. I'm not sure if you know how hard it is when you come to a new country with a little knowledge about the country and its language. You should be thankful that your parents brought you to this wonderful land. I AM.

I understand the frustration of having to call each and every school to straighten this out. I've got the same exact problem with some documents under a different name and others under a yet different name. But hey you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yep i've had similar problems. My real name is Garett (notice one R). Nearly 60% of people write it Garrett and this has been an issue before (even my drivers license was wrong for a period of time ). And to complicate matters further I go by Gary 😀

if you translate my name you get the Alxxxx (al implies "the" in arabic) how ever if you just pronuce it then its (xxxx)

well some schools are being rude about it thats the annoying part they are like you should only go by one name. i am like i would love to but i can't do that till i get a citizenship..

hhaha hey man, i have the same exact problem as you.. my parents put down Al-XXX for my offical name, but i've only been using XXX everywhere.. i would definately try to get everything under one name, and keep it consistent.. u dont want them mis placing ur stuff, good luck

I think the rule of thumb is to use whatever is on your social security card. If you change your name when you marry, I get issued another S.S. card and use that name on future bills, fin. aid, etc.
