I realize that most of the time when someone has to retake it's due to a poor score in verbal. I want to know from those who retook the MCAT and increase their verbal score what did you do? What helped you this time around that you didn't notice from your first time around? This section is the death of many dreams.

I basically went through as many verbal passages as a I could, all under reasonable timed conditions.
After each practice test, I identified the subject/topic of the passage and the author's point of view. I also outlined the main idea of each paragraph. I then proceeded to review the questions, going through each one to figure out why I got it wrong or right. Overtime, I eventually started seeing certain patterns, which helped me get through the passages more efficiently and quickly.

Verbal is tough to improve on, but it's not impossible. I ended up improving by 3 points the second time around. Good luck!

Are you using an effective strategy for verbal? You should do all passages in order and should not be looking for easy ones to do first, as this is an enormous waste of precious minutes. You should practice to achieve a consistent pace that will leave you with an extra 3-4 mins left. This page will allow you to spend an extra minute or 2 on a particularly difficult passage if necessary, while still making sure you have time to answer all the questions.

If you are already doing this, just keep practicing.

I am not sure what I am missing with verbal. I feel like I have tried a lot of different methods but the highest score I get is a 7. So I wanted to know what people noticed the second time that helped them improve their score.

Well I only took the real thing once, but I was originally scoring 7's on practice tests but managed an 11 on the real deal. All I did was practice practice practice for 4 months.

I studied verbal for a year and couldnt get higher than a 5, but managed to get a 9 during my last two weeks of studying and also on the real deal. I recently took a prac. test to see if I could replicate that, but I got another 5. Im convinced that the real exam's logic makes a lot more sense and actually tries to test your comprehension, whereas prac. exams have a very thin line of logic and focus on stuff like your ability to catch certain sentences, words, and other technicalities in the passage.

All of that being said, I still have friends who were scoring nothing but 11s from day 1 and say they simply cant explain how it works. However, as opposed to last year, im now convinced theres nothing wrong with my reading skills. This section will always remain a mystery to me
