This section is really worrying me because All I hear is about all these tone questions. I want to use search and destroy but feel that I will get all tone questions. Any advice from people who took the test???

I am a re-taker. This section and the PAT has been the sections killing my overall score. I used to score around 15 for RC because I never finished. I was using kaplan method, but wasn't working because I am a slow reader. So this time I trying search and destroy and yeah it's working for me!! The last test I took from topscore, I scored 19 for RC. It may not be good enough, but It makes me feel more comfortable and less frustrated. I hope this helps.🙂

RC was the section I was most worried about as well. I just took my test today and wound up doing better than I have ever done on any practice tests... I think I just got lucky with the three passages (they were really interesting and only like one tone question, but it was easy). Anyways I have been getting 21, 22, 21, and 20 on topscore and kaplan,but......I got a 24 Today. When I saw that I was like yyyeeeaaahhhhhhh. So yeah I only used the search and destroy method. I would read one question, find an important word or two in it, and search like mad until I found it in the article. If the question was like which of the following is true or is not true I skipped it and went back to it after I had wound up reading most parts of the article. But, my brother also took the DAT today and got the frap test with the ethics passage and scored a 15. We were scoring the exact same scores on practice exams...so I really think it depends on which exam you get. If you do get the ethics, skip it and come back to it last probably.

It's a tough call. Try to use both methods on test day. Oh by the way,
it's reading comprehension section, not verbal reasoning. BIG DIFFERENCE.

What I would do is try and read as much poetry as possible while paying close attention to details. If you can understand it well enough, you're very likely to do much better reading passages.

I definitely encourage search and destroy, leaving the tone questions until the end. By the time you get to them, you've basically read the whole passage anyway, plus, usually the tones are objective, and so you can eliminate answers too. Practice search and destroy, and try to get the main picture even though you're reading the passage out of order.
