Verification of Parents Assets

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know people who have gotten singled out for verification before (it is a somewhat random process, she was told--her parents had really few assets, which she ended up having to document at length.) I don't know if there is punishment involved if you outright lie (like they take away all of your aid instead of just adjusting it down).

As far as I know, most people don't lie. It is fraud. Lying to the government is a bad idea. If you get aid that you don't qualify for, it is stealing. I think most people realize that they shoud not steal money.

Yes, completing financial aid paperwork is a royal pain.

Oh....if you're just lying to the school, then yeah, that's fine...encouraged actually...dimwit.

I personally know someone who lost his financial aid because he lied about his (and his parents) information. He had to leave dental school and hasn't been able to go back.

As an undergrad, I was singled out almost every year for verification and it was a grueling process. Other students were driving BMWs, lied on their forms, and never got caught. Go figure.

It's a numbers game, they can't possibly confirm every student's information, but there are random audits...
