Does anyone have any idea why verification has been taking so long?

The AMCAS home page finally states that they started verifying apps submitted on June 2nd yesterday, on June 15th. Is it normal that it took them ~ 15 days to verify apps from one day (June 1st)? Is it because there is an influx of people who submit on the first day allowed, and then less each consecutive day?

I submitted on June 5th, and am really hoping it doesn't take 15 days to verify each day of applications haha

Just using those applicants who posted on SDN in the verification thread...all you have to do is look at the number of applications filed on June 1 vs the total number filed from June 2-15. There were more filed on the first day than the next 14 days combined! Of course it is going to take MUCH longer to get through the backlog from the first day. Once they get through the day 1 applications, things start moving at a more reasonable pace. Yours will very likely be up for verification by early next week. Relax.

Thanks! I'm not really stressed about it, I was just wondering if it was the norm for the first day of applications to take a lot of time because more people submit then, followed by less on consecutive days. I figured this was the case, but just thought I would ask more experienced people as this is my first application cycle.

Thank you for your stats on the amount filed on the first day vs. the rest of the days combined. That definitely answers my question 🙂

Rule 1: Take A Breath

With over 60,000 total primary applications initially submitted, over 100,000 transcripts to be processed, with each applicant averaging 54 courses, AMCAS will verified over 34.5 million indivdual data points during the course of the application cycle

People can submit transcripts beginning early May. Everyone who had both transcripts received and primary application submitted before you on June 5th is ahead of you in the verification queue, which could be 10,000-20,000 or more.

It can take from 1 to 30 calendar days to verify, depending on the volume and your transcript. But you better learn to pace yourself as this is a long slow process that is basically "Hurry Up and Wait." Your application will then go in the 10-20 medical school application queues that you have applied to.

AMCAS 2018 Timeline Summary (post count #036)
-AMCAS May 2, 2017, Primary application opens up. Can send formal requests for transcripts from your schools and letter requests to your letter writers.
-AMCAS June 1, 2017, Completed primary applications with all ECs, PS, and course information can be submitted. You enter the verification queue only when both completed primary application and all transcripts have been received.
-AMCAS June 30, 2017, begins transmission verified applications until late June (though some schools have secondaries sent to contact info upon submission to AMCAS)
-Verification peak is about August 1st and takes 20 days
-Most Primary Apps are transmitted early July thru early September
-Secondaries timelines can vary widely as to when to they are sent out from almost immediately upon submissions to 3 months, though most are in the range 1-3 weeks after transmission.
-Letters via AMCAS are processed/transmitted separately from primary
-Letters can be added after primary has been submitted and transmitted and are mostly not needed until secondary reviews at the earliest.
-Application and candidate evaluations timeline varies widely by school may not done in a linear, chronological order. EDP, High achievers, URM, family of alumni, feeder schools, associated UG programs, linked postbaccs, and other factor may push an app forward in the process.
-Most adcoms dont start meeting for review of evaluated applicants until at least mid-August, more likely September, though some reviews may be done earlier for groups mentioned above.
-Submitting Primary Application June is Early, July Medium, August Late
-Having Primary verified and transmitted to school by end of August is normal speed
-Having Secondary and all LORs complete to school by Labor Day is early. By late or end of September is about normal speed, by end of October is about late.
--After that point you will generally start getting impacted by the number of applications submitted, the finite number of interview slots, and seats given by rolling admissions. This isnt an absolute date nor is it a fixed timeline. It should be used as a guideline
Thanks for your response! I actually have this timeline of yours screenshotted on my phone from a previous post haha

They already have my transcripts, and like I said, I'm not really stressed out about it. Just more curious about whether this was the norm or not. Thanks again!

To add, in case it makes you feel better:

June 30th is a Friday. If you have ever had a "real job", youll know no big project, like reviewing primaries, really gets started on a Friday.
The next Monday is July 3rd, Tuesday the fourth. So I would guess at least half of admissions staff members wont go to work on the 3rd, and none on the fourth.
So you will still likely be submitted by the earliest time anyone might start looking at apps, July 5th.

random question but what do you mean "each applicant averaging 54 courses"? that seems like a lot.. even if you took 5 a semester X 8 semesters would only be 40..

n=1, but I had to take at least 6 classes a semester to fulfill all my school's requirements; my transcript probably has somewhere from 48-50 courses just in undergrad.

Then, too, lots of people have extra coursework of some kind (HS dual enrollment, post-bacc either formal or DIY, graduate coursework). I'd guess it adds up.

A lot of schools are on quarter system, so 1.5 times more courses

I would guess dual enrollment and AP courses add a substantial amount for some applicants. Also, many people have grad school courses and things like that. Also, I personally usually took 7-8 classes per semester

@fldoctorgirl I wouldn't worry much about it. Submitting on June 2 is super early (You are only behind June 1).

Most importantly, verified AMCAS won't get transmitted to schools until late June. Therefore, it doesn't matter whether you are verified now or on June 20th.

According to the SDN Verification Thread, people who submitted on the 5th are being verified today. So you should expect yours to be in the next day or so.
