I am currently applying to medical school through the MD route. I have an activity (volunteering at my local food bank) that I marked as completing 45 hours between January and May 2021. However, when I logged onto the portal, it said that I only have 24 hours total. I realized that between January and April, I had 21-24 hours that were not counted in the computer system because the volunteer coordinator wasn't formally having us sign in. Plus the food bank moved locations in April. Thus the only record of my 45 hours is in my memory and journal. Also, I projected to complete 100 additional hours between June 2021 and June 2022. However, I don't know if I will be able to complete all 100. Will either of these get me in trouble? I understand that schools like to verify activities.

I have a feeling they don’t have time to verify all of each applicant’s extracurricular. I also have a feeling less scrupulous applicants have used this to their advantage. On the extremely off chance someone checked your hours, I think you’d be given the benefit of the doubt. You’re not claiming 1,000 hours with just 24 documented hours. With projected hours, nobody puts much stock in them so your safe there. All of this assuming you have other experiences padding your app.
