I pose a question to anyone who has taken vertebrate physiology at the undergraduate level: what exactly did you do in your lab courses?

I'm taking an organic course for chemistry majors and vertebrate physiology and I want to mentally prepare for this summer.

Our model organism for most labs was the frog. First labs involved familiarization with instrumentation (oscilloscope, stimulator, pressure transducer). Our prof. emphasized the physics side of physiology so keep that in mind (fluid physics, circuit concepts, etc.). My favorites were testing the actions of drugs on different receptors, e.g. whether succinylcholine or atropine are active at muscarinic or nicotinic ACh receptors? Frog dissections involved identification of vessels to cannulate for drug administration and blood pressure measurement after administering vasoactive drugs. Also measured blood flow by dye dilution. Lots of fun calculations for pretty much every lab.

Have fun!
