hey guys,

never on this forum ever (i'm an md.), but i totally respect vets and the ultra competitiveness that is required to even think about getting into a vet school (esp. in the US.) anyway, i was hanging out with some friends last night talking about ACL tears; i had my say, but then i realized that we were talking about canine acl tears, so i was not longer quite sure of myself.

when i am intersted in a subject in medicine, i tend to canvas the medical journals and check out the recent literature. Where can i go to look into veterinary journals?? If there is someone out there who would like to have better access to medical journals, i'd be happy to trade login/passwords. i have tremendous access to a large database of medical info. just pm me. even if some people feel that an exchange of passcodes is unethical or whatnot, I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction to obtain quality accurate veterinary info.

thanks for any info/insight/advice!

peace y'all

We probably use many of the same databases as you. Medline/pubmed is a biggie. There is also VIN (www.vin.com - you must be a member to use it) and OVID online (including many databases, like CAB abstracts and biomed) - but you need to go through your library for a username and password.

I also like the electronic journals - see http://www.lib.gla.ac.uk/ejournals/index.shtml for a list. You can go down and find all the veterinary ones.

I hope this helps! Sorry I can't provide you with usernames/passwords.

I primarily use PubMed or Web of Science if I'm looking for something specific. (Sadly, so many abstracts are for journal articles only available at Davis in print format, if at all.) Sometimes I'll just browse through the journals on Blackwell Synergy or Elsevier Science Direct.

Here's the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine subject guide, which lists a bunch of electronic resources: http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/dept/hsl/resources/vetmed/
