I was just wondering if any one with the experience of applying to vet school could give me advice. if I applied for vet school with a 3.0 GPA and 1000 hrs of volunteering with a vet of shelter as well as a good score on the GRE would i have a chance of getting in? i plan to apply with CSU vet school next year? i just wasnt sure if id have a chance. I cant even begin to tell you how much desire i have to become a vet too. I cant really see myself doing much else, i love animals! My GPA is just bad and it worries me... anyone have any advice to give me. thanks i appreciate it.

Well you're definitely gonna want to get as much experience under a veterinarian if possible. The 1000 hours at a shelter is good but the more experience (and more varied) that you get, the better. What is your GRE score, if you don't mind me asking? With a 3.0, you may have some trouble with the more competitive schools, but a lot of it depends on your prerequisite grades (chemistry, biology, etc). Also, if you have any experience that would make you stand out from other applicants (underpriveleged circumstances, trips abroad, interesting volunteering experiences, multicultural, etc) those do give you an edge.

About CSU though...this year they had 1800 applicants, and it tends to be much tougher for out of state students to get in (they only accept about 20ish non sponsored individuals). If you end up applying, definitely apply to more places then just there. Its a tough school for even the most competitive applicants to get into!

Good luck!🙂

I havent taken the GRE yet i plan to soon. What would you say is a good enough score? to be looked at at least?

Hmm well I think the average is probably somewhere from 1180 to mid 1200s. Those scores would put you in the "competitive" applicant pool. Most schools look for high 600's in math, high 500s in verbal and 4.0 range for analytical (writing). Obviously the higher the better! Some schools, like Tufts, Cornell and Penn shoot more for the 600 or higher range for verbal and 700+ range for math. Each school should have an "accepted student profile" page for you to check out that states the average stats. They're all a bit different!

Does Colorado participate in WICHE? (I always forget!)

If coralreef is a NM resident (as the location in profile shows) then at least they can apply as a WICHE applicant (though it isn't as if that's much easier per se!).
