Ok Last year I found a PDF on the internet that had all the vet schools listed and things such as averge GPA, GRE, science GPA, OOS admits, age, etc listed. I can't seem to find where I found that.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? And have they released the one from this last cycle yet?

Naw. Thanks for trying but that's not it.

It was a break down of each vet school in the US and told you the average GPA, GRE, etc and the amount of IS and OOS accepted. The background was orange IIRC.

I remember this too, and haven't been able to find it for this year either 🙁.

I am curious too, I was looking for it the other day and it couldn't find it anywhere.

Oh Twelvetigers.....where ARRRRRE Youuuuuuu??

How did I miss this?!?!?! I *love* statistics, and I totally would have obsessed over this hypothetical statistics pdf if I knew it existed....very sad 🙁

I'm pretty sure it was on the AAVMC page (but it is not the same thing that was posted above). I used it to decide which schools I should apply to. It gave a breakdown of everything for each school, including average age of applicants, numbers of students admitted with graduate degrees, average GPA and tons of other useful info.

I remember what you guys are talking about, and I am half convinced that it isn't there anymore. I searched the entire site map, and this was as close as I could get. There is some useful stuff here:

http://www.aavmc.org/vmcas/vmcas_downloads.htm

But I can't find exactly what you are talking about anywhere. I suspect they may have removed it so they could include it in the VMSAR?

Well it's not there but there are some pretty handy other PDFs there. Thanks for the link!

Maybe they just removed it until they can put up an updated file...or, something.

I think you are right, now they can charge for the information! Not like our applications don't cost enough as it is 😡

Anyone who has gotten the VMSAR....is this info in it?

I swear I have the older copy on my computer somewhere...anyone remember what it was called?

Wah? I'm the master of past threads. This is just some pdf floating around on the internet! Can't really help there. 😛

I'll look in my VMSAR when I get home, if no one has beaten me to it. 🙂

Oh, well that's NO excuse

That's it! Do they have an updated version available? I also remember it have school abbreviations though?

In the new VMSAR book, look at table 12, page 217. I think this is the new version that you are looking for.

That is definitely the updated version of what everyone is looking for (class of 2012 stats)... I was thinking about scanning the table from the book and posting a pdf of it here but I got nervous because I thought it would probably be frowned upon to copy and post things from a published book. Anyway, I would be happy to answer any questions if you guys are looking for certain stats! 🙂

Amazing how many people some schools admit w/o even a BS, in a few cases more than with them! 😕 Also that in general, the big 5 schools have some of the lowest average GPAs. However the big 5 also have on the higher range of advanced degrees per student as well.

Yea, like one school in particular that accepted >60% of their students without a BS 👎 Maybe I am a little biased because I am slightly older but after only 3 years of schooling I can't imagine that 60% of the applicants are mature enough for the responsibilities that come with being a professional student. I think 3 & 1 programs are great for the right student but 60% is A LOT!

I don't have a BS and was accepted to three schools. I'm also 27 and have more than enough credit hours for a bachelor's degree. And trust me, I'm mature enough for graduate school.

I find it a little annoying that you guys don't think I'm qualified enough for vet school just because I don't have a bachelor's. Three of my closest friends also don't have BS degrees, are non-traditional, and got accepted to vet school. Not all of those without bachelor's are young people in their third year of undergrad.

Sorry, it's a touchy subject. I've encountered so many people with this attitude that if you don't have a bachelor's you don't deserve to go to vet school over anyone who does have a bachelor's.

I obviously can't speak for the previous posters, but I highly doubt they're trying to make a dig at non-trads with no bachelor's. You all not only have acquired great life skills, but also show amazing dedication for jumping back into this whole process.
Rather, I'd imagine the concern is about the really young kids who just took the prereqs and managed to get in and who might lack the diplomacy, maturity, and interpersonal skills that seem to develop with age. BTW, I'm 20 😀. On the other hand, I know plenty of very capable and competent college juniors who I think could easily make the leap into professional school right now. In any case, hopefully the vet school academic and experience requirements would keep out anyone who wasn't really serious.

Funny, I didn't really think we had a "Big 5." In fact, I've never heard that phrase applied to vet school until right now. I do remember hearing it applied to sororities in college, though...

Oh, you didn't know? it's CSU, CSU, CSU, MN, and Colorado. 😉

In the UK it's the norm for students there to enter vet school right out of high school. My British cousin is 23 and just graduated vet school this spring. Granted their high school is set up differently, but I think the fact that they produce successful vets there shows that being young and not having a bachelor's do not inherently make one unable to attend professional school.

Oh, and as a resident she paid L3000 a year - so I am jealous about that as well!

aspiringDVM hit the nail on the head, I couldn’t have defended myself any better! I wasn't implying that all people accepted without a bachelors degree are unqualified, I am very sorry if it came off like that. I just think that certain schools are not doing a good job of diversifying the class by accepting 60% or more without a degree at a mean age of 23. Having been a TA for vet students I know many students who could have used an extra year or two of maturing before starting vet school.

Does anyone have a copy of this saved on their computer that they could send me? AAVMC changed their website and none of the links posted here still work. I am writing a paper for my Women in the Workplace class about why there are so many more women than men in vet school and stats from those tables would be extremely helpful! Thank you in advance.
PS-If anyone has any potential explanations for the gender gap, I'd love to hear them.

i'll admit i didn't read the whole thread so maybe the request was already fulfilled, but is this what you're looking for, HopefulAg? it's not updated, but i think this was the one that everyone searched so hard for last year.

Yah, that's the one I was looking for (I think....I barely remember last week much less two years ago 😀).

Oh and: Hi old me! You kicked ass! 👍

Ricegrad- Thank you. Lincoln is great, I am definitely using her in my paper. Good thing I have lots of experience reading research papers though, her stuff is pretty technical.
Turnbackhelly- Thanks so much for the attachment! I appreciate it and it'll help with my paper a lot.
