I'm friends with quite a few people that go to vet school at the University of Florida and once in a while I see tagged pictures on Facebook of students that are asleep in class. They even have an album especially for pictures of sleeping students. I think its quite a hobby of theirs to catch people in the act, lol. I was just wondering if any other school does this?

I think its hilarious!

IDK about other schools, but I would love to see this album lol

its funny you mention this. a friend of mine is a freshman in florida and shes had a pic of herself sleeping in class as her fb profile pic this semester

They should make it into a "cause" and hold a tongue-in-cheek bake sale. Something like "Florida Society for the Prevention of Student Sleep Deprivation".

lol, yea I actually know the person who started it. shes a second year..and the first years continued it this year. A lot of the pics though are often during breaks too...But yea, I definitely find myself straining to keep my eyes open in certain classes...a.k.a histology! But lots of head bobbing does go on in vet school!

I thought about doing it here at LSU after seeing that, but I sit towards the front, and that probably wouldn't work out too well, haha.

I actually have friends that just skip class to sleep! Not study! LOL

Yesterday during Bacteriology, someone in the back of the room fell asleep (noticeably, with their head on the table behind them). A guy across the aisle turned his laptop to the side to take a picture with the webcam, then uploaded it to facebook so we could all comment on it and laugh. Productive class period.

I have a feeling that would be a potential 'hot water' thing here, as we are suppose to maintain a professional image. I certainly would remove any tags of me in those types of pictures. never know who knows who and will wander onto things like that and think poorly of it.

I forgot which school's site i was reading, but in the student guide book it said that one of the requirements was that students maintain a professional image. And it specifically mentioned types of clothing you shouldn't wear. Some things were obvious (jeans with holes) but then it also said sweatpants. Now, i can see some baggy sweats being really unprofessional, but at the same time i feel like normal fitting ones look fine. I'm a big sporty person so i love to wear sport pants which i guess could be considered in the same category as sweatpants?? Also, in winter i love to wear hoodies!!
Does anyone know anything about this?

That seems ridiculous. I mean, sure, if i were going out to represent the school, on prac, giving a presentation, etc etc, of course I would wear smart. But when its exam period and ive had 4 hours sleep the last 7 nights in a row (aka atm!) I am going to wear trackies all day every day, and I am way past the point of caring who in the vet faculty sees me. I'm studying in the library or the anatomy museum - I don't need to "look" professional. And I don't understand why I would need to for lecture either. Thats crazy.

I think you are talking about Mississippi State. I think it's ridiculous too. I love wearing my comfy clothes 🙂

We are allowed to wear whatever (at least in classes...very strict in terms of animal and clinic units.)

However, complaints by staff and community (as in outside of the school) are taken very seriously. As in someone called the school and griped about vet students verbally dissecting the chicken they were eating at an eatery, and it was emphasized that if complaints were coming in, it is a problem of professionalism. No posting of cadavers on facebook, etc. that type of stuff. We are allowed to have pictures for personal use, but not posting.

I don't think profs would be happy with anyone snapping photos in the classroom anyways. some get annoyed if you check school email and even at times downloading lecture slides.

I've seen a collage of photos of various U.C. Davis vet students sleeping in class. I'd bet photographic evidence of in-class naps happens at many vet schools, but I could of course be totally wrong.

😴

I haven't seen anyone in our class sleeping. We all have laptops though, so its probably a different generation. I must say though. I always pride myself in looking somewhat professional, and yet I just realized that one of my favorite pairs of jeans has holes strategically cut into the knees in the most trendy and fashionable way. If I paid $90 for said jeans and bought them with the holes already cut, and I wear them with REALLY cute boots, thats still considered professional, right?!?! RIGHT?!?!?

Please, my world is hanging on a thread here...

Think A&M has a dress code as well but I've heard the staff starts off super strict on it and by the end of the first semester they don't care so much any more.

As far as the sleeping thing, I've no idea. But any vet school that has one, that I go to, will have me featured in it at least thrice.
