Hello all,
I’ve read a lot about how being a veteran is advantageous to the application process but I haven’t seen how it actually helps. What are some tangible ways that it helps? Does it act like being URM? Do adcoms even care? I’m putting my application together and I just want to know if it’s worthwhile to try and highlight my military experience.
Thanks in advance.

Service to country is associated with valor, teamwork, maturity and a host of other valued qualities.
To the degree that an applicant reflects these qualities there is a "boost."
The amount of boost will vary by school and committee and thus cannot be reliably quantified.
Experiences during service can be an important part of an application and should be highlighted when relevant.

Most applicants with military service will break the experience down into multiple categories so each component can be highlighted. Examples from AMCAS might be:
Military Service
Leadership - Not Listed Elsewhere
Honors/Award/Recognition
Teaching
And if applicable, Community Service/Volunteer - Medical/Clinical
+/- Community Service/Volunteer - Non Medical/Clinical
+/- Employment-Medical/Clinical.
