How can I become a veterinary pharmacist? I've heard that I can take another year in specialized program for veterinary pharmacist after graduating from a pharmacy school. Is that how it works? So to become a veterinary pharmacist, the first thing to do is take pcat and apply to a pharmacy school just like any other pharmacy careers?

This is something I am interested in as well! From what I have researched you want to attend pharmacy school and get a PharmD and should your school offer an elective in veterinary pharmacy you can take that. There is a residency at UC Davis you can apply for after finishing your PharmD and I know there are extra education resources through the American College of Veterinary Pharmacist.

I think UF has an online course in veterinary pharmacy?

I know we have a veterinary pharmacy elective, but I don't know anything about it. Well I know it is at least offered during the summer and if you take it then block tuition does not cover it so you have to pay extra to take it over the summer. An unimaginably bad deal in my opinion but people still do it.

UF seems to offer quite a few different post-PharmD Masters programs. I personally was peeking into the one for Forensic Pharmacy, but I still haven't figured out the difference between a toxicologist and a "forensic pharmacist."

Does anyone know if BPS is looking into certifying veterinary pharmacy as a specialty?

What is the current need for veterinary pharmacists? Regular compounding pharmacists deal with the compounding of various veterinary medications that aren't available in standard dosage forms, and as far as dispensing I believe it's not as regulated as for humans, so one can just obtain the medication from a vet. So being a veterinary pharmacist would most likely not land you a job in too many places.
