Californians spared from veterinary services sales tax!

The budget process in California was long and grueling. However,
one bright spot is that the state legislature rejected Governor
Schwarzenegger's proposal to extend the sales tax to veterinary
services. This ill-conceived "Fido Fine" could have added up to
10 percent to the cost of caring for animals in California,
endangering the health and well-being of pets and forcing people
to make tough choices about whether animals get the care they
need.
Thanks to the thousands of calls and emails from concerned
Californians like you, the Fido Fine was dropped. I am so
grateful you took the time to take action; it has paid off for
the animals. We're also lucky to have had the strong leadership
of the California Veterinary Medical Association, and we
congratulate them on the success, too.
This is an issue we'll be watching over the coming months. As
states and agencies struggle to come to terms with the current
economic downturn, we must ensure that animals do not bear the
brunt.
Thank you for all you do for animals.
Sincerely,
Mike Markarian
