Hey guys,

What do you guys think about studying for an hour and then taking a break to play some of your favorite video games for 20-30 minutes.

Personally I love video games and it’s a way I can get away from everything and it makes me happy. I’ve been studying so much that I haven’t had this for a while so I was wondering your take on this.

I used to do this all the time! I’d study for an hour and take a 15 minute break and play Super Mario Bros or something else relaxing and mindless. It’s a good de-stressor!

Hey fellow kids, if you wanna “floss” your way to a “victory royale” on step 1, be sure to take a video game break every 3 hours!

“Gotta study fast!” says Sonic!

I personally would stick to something more structured for my break, like a 20 minute long show or something. Usually would eat as I watch it too to get a break and a meal in at once. Video games can suck you in and waste too much time if you're not careful.

At first I didn't think it was a good strategy since I have a younger brother who used to be addicted to playing video games. However I know many of my med school classmates who are bros and play video games with each other. They do very well on exams and matched at very good residency programs (think UCLA for instance).
I think it all depends on your time management and giving yourself a good break to avoid burnout.

I think this could also work for multiplayer games that have a relatively fixed amount of time per round (like an Overwatch game or a LoL game). Although with LoL your studying might be a break from the absolute dog**** that is the LoL community. It's games like Skyrim where there isn't really any division of time that are dangerous imo.
