Below are some new videos that in my opinion are worth watching. Although none of the topics are ground breaking, the information is useful and well presented.

The “lecturer” is Allen Jacobs, DPM. For those who don’t know him, he’s been around a long time and has trained many residents. He’s not afraid to tell it like it is, and as a result some people aren’t his fans.

I believe he’s one of the brightest people I’ve ever met and certainly one of the brightest in our profession. He’s amazingly well read and well published.

Please watch and enjoy.

I mean he actively seeks out malpactrice cases/expert testimony opportunities against other podiatrists so I guess that's not surprising

I’m not sure he “actively seeks out” cases. He’s well known and he’s very bright. That’s a formula for getting called by lawyers, and being an expert in a legal case pays very well.

He’s not known as one of the hired guns who made the majority of his living testifying against pods. I know many cases where he was the defense expert.

Early in my career I decided to only be a defense expert if asked. But I often felt uncomfortable defending doctors who were incompetent a-holes who couldn’t care less about the patient. In my opinion, that was worse than being a plaintiff expert when a doctor truly did a patient harm.

It seemed hypocritical to defend a doctor who was truly incompetent and grossly breached the standard of care. I’m not talking about a good surgeon who ended up with a poor result. I’m talking about gross negligence.

I had a patient in my office who was young and healthy and was butchered by a DPM and crippled. The DPM was a constant liar and complete a-hole so I took the case against him. His expert was nationally known and something I discovered was used in my testimony that completely discredited the “guru” and the case settled 20 minutes later in favor of the plaintiff.

Word got around quickly and I started getting lots of calls to be a hired gun but I declined 99% of those cases.

Dr. Jacobs is good at what he does, and as a result gets called to be an expert often. He’s made the decision to be an expert on both sides and I personally have no problem with that, since at times that may be protecting the public.

I would not classify him as a hired gun. If you have information that I don’t, than I stand corrected.
