I completely get the answer and explanation, but I initially got it wrong because, even though the passage says it's 440hz, it doesnt say that string A on the cello is 440hz, only on the violin. Unless the passage states it, how are we to know that the viola and cello have the same frequency for the equivalent string? Thanks...
 
It doesn't specify that the viola and violin strings are different, but it makes special note to make sure you know that the cello is a whole octave below. It is safe to assume that the A string will be the same for the violin and viola. (Plus if you look at a viola or violin, it'd be hard to argue that their A strings have different frequencies. If you look at a cello though you can tell the strings are of different tension, length, ect.)
