Hello. I have an interview with VCU, but I am from out of state (South Carolina.) I was curious if anyone knew if accepted to VCU, how hard it is to become a VA resident if you have a husband who is working full time in the state while you are in dental school. Would it be easier for me to obtain residency than if I had come here for school with no income going to the state of VA? We file taxes joint. Thanks to anyone who can help 🙂 It would be great to only have to pay instate tuition for the first year!

not sure i understand your question. it isn't difficult to obtain residency...but you have to be here more than a year before the entering year...

I am in SC. I don't have a year before dental school. I know it is hard to gain residency if you move there soley for dental school. I guess I'm wondering if it would make a difference since I am married (and therefore paying income tax--husband files jointly) if I could gain residency during school easier. Anyone know?

yeh, that would be a question you would need to ask the dental school. From what I hear, they are all different. Why would you not apply to MUSC? They have a great school

you won't be able to get residency for the first year though...at least i don't think you will. might be a good question to ask at the interview. good luck with the interview!! I am jealous!! 🙂

Thanks a lot Clemson. I agree MUSC is a great school...and while I love SC, I guess I'm curious about what the rest of the country is about 🙂 I'm on the western side of the state (Anderson SC) anyway, so MUSC isnt that close. I'm looking to find a little bit more of a season change.
