is that a red flag? you can still get a high paying job as a doctor right lol
Rankings are only important to clueless pre-meds and MD school deans.
I can't recommend Va Tech to non-Virginians, unless they come from the nearby Appalachian regions, or went to Va Tech for UG.

The odds of someone IS getting an interview are 15%, while for OOS it's ~5%. To be accepted, the odds are ~ 36% for the interviewees, while for OOS, it's ~45%. With a class size of only 43, this is a schools that's hard to peg down.

I interviewed at Vtech. Looked like a unique gem of a school from what I saw. If you like research and want a small/tight nit environment then that school would be just perfect. It is very high tech and it is clear they want you to do well.

They do have PBL and lots of the trendy ways to learn though so there is that. The town is very small so you would really have to buy-in to the culture of living the med student life and buy-in to the learning environment/style.

So lots of good things if that is what you are looking for. Definitely not a fit for everyone, and that is probably kind of the point. If you get in there you will definitely be set up to succeed for neurology. I am not sure if they have the connections for specialties like plastics or derm or neurosurg to make calls on your behalf like a well-established academic school would though. I didn’t think about that back then so I never asked questions about it.

I wouldn’t exactly call Roanoke VA small. There’s 100k people lol

I interviewed and was accepted at VTech as an OOS student. It's a very unique school and if you love research and thrive in a close-knit environment it could be a really good fit for you! I was personally not a fan of how tiny the class size was especially given that the area doesn't have much else to do but it seemed like a great school overall.
