VIRMP 2026
Started by zenarcade
If you failed to match, the VIRMP terms of agreement no longer apply. Accepting a position through the scramble is outside the purview of VIRMP; that's handled directly between you and the program. In other words, this is a standard employment contract issue. Any legal repercussions would depend on specific details. If I accepted an internship through the scramble over the phone, would you also get black listed if you call again and back out? I am having MASSIVE regrets!!
What I would do is contact the program director and discuss your reservations honestly and professionally. Speaking as a program director, the last thing I want is an intern who doesn't want to be here.

I feel this so muchI matched to Auburn SA Rotating. Does anyone know anyone there for housing purposes? It was not my first choice, kind of bummed about that-- but happy for the opportunity!
for those that scrambled, how soon after verbally agreeing to the position did you receive an official email or something along those lines? stressing over here and lowkey it doesn't feel real until i have physical proof ya know

Congratulations to everyone! I was wondering when folks typically hear back from their respective programs with formal offer letters and HR on-boarding information? I realize this is probably program-dependent but I was generally curious about the timeline and would love some insight from folks who have been through this before. Thanks!
It’s been a long time since I went through the process, but we got welcome emails pretty quickly but paperwork took several weeks. I want to say my private practice internship was quite a bit quicker than my residency. My residency didn’t send stuff until mid-April and I think my internship was in mid-March…but also the match day used to be earlier than it is now so my experience may not be that useful anymore.Congratulations to everyone! I've been at the same institution through 3 match cycles now, so my n is really only 1, but we got a welcome letter within a few hours of matching and didn't start getting formal contract stuff until at least the next day or later in that week.Congratulations to everyone! Late congrats to everyone who matched!! 🥳
Now that it’s had time to sit… I didn’t match to a program (DI) and it’s honestly been very hard. Scrambled into a medicine internship spot (grateful I was able to get something!!) at the advice of my mentors and what makes this even harder is the thought of having to trudge through another intern year doing something that honestly doesnt bring me much joy.
Hopefully it’ll will be a year that will be help me strengthen my application and became a more rounded, confident doctor but honestly, this whole experience has left me feeling very defeated - about both the doctor I am and my hopes of being a radiologist one day. If anyone has been through something similar and has any advice, I’d love to chat!

I didn’t get a residency my first attempt back in 2014 either (also holy cow, I am old now). I was trying to get a path residency straight out of school and several programs said I was competitive and had some of the best letters of rec they’d seen, but they just went with someone else, which was not very useful feedback. I pivoted last minute and did a rotating internship for a year. Intern year wasn’t great but also wasn’t horrible, and I did get an offer at my top choice the next cycle. So if anyone wants to talk to someone who has been there, feel free to PM me. It’s a bump in the road but doesn’t mean it’s the end of your journey!
