hey,

approximately how long does school take to process recommendation letters submitted via virtualevals? (as in does it take a shorter time than paper mail-ins or interfolio, etc?) thanks!

once you're undergrad school uploads your letters onto VE, it is accessible instantaneously to your designated med schools. VE is essentially an online repository of your letters - your undergrad school uploads them in pdf format, your designated schools can download the pdf whenever they want. The time it takes depends on the med school. Some med schools I applied to downloaded it the day I submitted the secondary. Some have yet to download it weeks after. But it's always there for them to download when they feel like it.

Will they mark your letters as received only when they download the PDFs, or as soon as they know your letters are available for download?

it should be when they actually download them. i called one of the schools to which i applied about the incomplete status for my LORs. The lady I spoke to was very nice and said that they should have already been downloaded (available several weeks earlier). She downloaded the letters to my file at the time and had me confirm my status page was updated. i'm assuming it works similarly at other schools.

when they download them, or even after. Keck downloaded my letters on Aug 15th (they were available to download on July 31), and the letters were marked as complete on Sept 6th.
