Hi, I'm an IMG who has recently received an offer as an intern in a hospital. I was wondering about visas because my hospital has nominated me for a 482, and I want to know how to go about this to convert it to a PR. The contract offered by my hospital is for 3 years but the 482 I'm nominated for is for 2 years (with a one time renewal for 2 years). When I contacted Medical Workforce, I was asked to contact a migration agent who would help me with this. I've spoken to a few migration agents, read AMSA releases and I'm still unsure as to how to go about this seeing. My reading thus far mentions I'll be eligible only for a 190 (state nominated) but ideally I'd like to get a 189 (individual). Is there any way I can get a PR whilst on a 482?

Also, is applying for residency (BPT and beyond, and I'm also considering derm/radio/pathology) difficult for an IMG? Would the 10 year moratorium gravely affect my future practice in Australia?

Would appreciate a response to this. Thanks in advance.

You'll save yourself a lot of grief by getting a migration agent to help. There are a lot of options but you need to get your ducks in a row.

10 year moratorium won't really affect you as a specialist, especially if you work at a hospital.

I got a 189 PR from a 482. You just need to have enough points, ideally more than 70. That means taking an English test (like the PTE) and having a year of work experience (like doing internship). Getting PR opens a lot of doors for speciality training.

Nobody I know used a migration agent.
