My Brother, Manish, just finished his Bachelors in Dental surgery from India. He wishes to study further here in USA and wants to apply for DMD/DDS courses.
Since he has to give NDBE papers for this degree programs. But I have few questions--
1) Since Kaplan offer I-20 for 6 months courses for NDBE prep. Do u have any friends who got visa based on I-20 received from Kaplan.
2) According to him, he can also join MPH program and get visa on that.
or What is the best way to get visa and how students from India has done to come to USA for this denistry program and I would be very happy to learn about experience.

Thanks

In my understanding, your brother can go to the US using a tourist visa, since with this kind of visa he is allowed to stay in the US for 6 months. but if he will enroll himself to KAPLAN, they will assist him in getting a student visa to get in the US. If his basics are strong, i believe he doesnt need to attend KAPLAN, since i believe students from India usually have good foundation in their basics and can get good NBDE scores. If he can first review in India, then go for the exam in the US, then after he makes the score and is able to get in university, then i believe that would be the right time to think of the visa.... this is only my opinion, hope it helped 🙂

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. What you suggested sounds good(as its saves times and money) but then I have a doubt on getting Tourists visa as I am on H1 status. I also heard that students join MPH and then transfer for DMD/DDS. If anyone came through Kaplan course to USA as it would be spending $1000 for that course training of 6 months, Please give me some feedback/suggestions
Thanks

if ure on an H1 .. why do u want a tourist visa.
u can take admission for MPH or even enroll in a reserch programme for biomaterails or cell biology or related fields. a lot of universities offer them.
if u come via kaplan.. u are sure of getting a visa.. otherwise the chances of ure tourist visa being rejected are pretty great....

I am sorry I didn't mention it clearly in my post. My Brother is in India and wants to be here for DDS/DMD. I heard that getting visa would be difficult for students if sponsorer ,like me who are on H1, not on GC or citizens. I believe Its easy to get tourists visa for parents rather than for sis/bro, if I am on H1.

Believe me, it is not so easy to get tourists or visitors visa for Indian dentists.

To be frank, this visa issuance is completely upto visa officer and on his mood at that moment. Ofcourse your brother has to give convincing reasons as to why he is visiting US. Visa decision is completely upto officers discretion.

I know one of my friends got her visitors visa rejected once even though she went to interview with her parents as a family to visit their sister in US.

I would suggest you to apply for your brother to some oral biology or MS biomaterials or other MS programs. I also heard few dental public health schools which are offering programs. It would be a wise decision to come on students visa than on tourists visa because after writing his NBDE exams he has to go back to India to convert his status from visitors to students as it is a risky process if you want to do the conversion from US itself.

My bottom line....ask your brother to prepare for his GRE get > 1300 and apply to schools and at the same time ask him to prepare convincing answers. 👍

Best, cheapest and relatively hassle free option is to join Kaplan NBDE course for 6 months and get an I-20 from them. Then apply for F1 visa. It also gives more legality to continue on F1 at the time of joining D school as the primary intention was made clear to interviewing Visa officer at the Indian consulate and at port of entry.

Good luck

The best way to go about this is to come to U.S. on a student visa for MPH, Biomaterials, Oral Biology or some other Master's program. Getting a student visa from India for a Kaplan course is very difficult. Most students i have seen at kaplan came on a F-1 visa for some Master's and after a semester at the program, transferred to kaplan.
