Hello,
I know that OT has different specialties (feeding, hand) and I was curious to see if anyone knew about vision therapy? I've had bad vision my whole life and vision is something I am interested in. Has anyone shadowed this side of OT or knows about it? Thank you

I've wondered about this question myself. A volunteer I worked with at an event I helped with in Indianapolis told me a good friend of hers was an OT with a special focus in vision therapy. She seemed to indicate that she was one of very few. Before I could get her information she was off her shift.
Then I have a good friend who is doing her a program in the vision department at Western Michigan. She is certified in low vision. When I asked her about whether she knew of OT's who work in low vision she told me that she didn't know anyone. She also indicated that in order for the OT to practice in low vision they had to hold the specialized license within the vision field.
Basically what I am saying is... I've heard of it being utilized within OT but am not sure how you ago about doing so. I'd love to learn more as well.

University of Alabama at Birmingham offers a post-masters course in Low Vision. The course is taken online. OTS who specalize in low vision are in HIGH DEMAND! There are not too many, but from all the OTS I have spoken with it is GREAT to get into!

Very good to know froggie. I am interested in low vision as well. Very little information in school about it. I wish there was more emphasis placed on it and any new emerging areas of interests to OTs.

this is sort of a general question but for continuing education classes, must one attend them at the school they've already gotten into or can they take them at another university later down the road? Thanks
