Does anyone think this this is a good idea? I've worked at one and visited two. Does it help to visit a few of your favorites to show them you are interested and get to know what they want?

It might give you something to talk about. There's nothing wrong with visiting medical schools, if you can afford it 😉

It definitely wouldn't be a bad idea, it can't hurt. I'd definitely try to visit whenever possible. I think it'll prepare yourself for the interview day. As for favorites.. I'm not sure but hey, some face recognition would be pretty cool come interview day.

Are you planning to just casually stop by the admissions office and introduce yourself?

No train-related puns or choo choo... :scared:

OP: I don't think it would help much. I believe somebody created a thread on this about a week or two ago and people were for the most part neutral about it (if they were for it, it was minimal benefit).

It's not really that common, and I'm not sure it would help you in the eyes of adcoms. But it could be helpful for you.

Still, I doubt it would hurt to send a quick email to the admissions people and say you are interested and ask if you could stop by and ask some questions. Maybe they would help you out, maybe they wouldn't. No harm in asking though. I would do this before you go. I wouldn't just drop in.

If that doesn't work, you can use any connections you have or even SDN to track down some current students and get an informal tour/information session. Med students always could use a free lunch or some coffee.

Not really and no.
