Hi all,

I am in the process of compiling my list of schools for next application cycle, and have decided to visit some of them to get a closer look. How does one usually proceed about doing this? Can I just drop in some random day and take a look around and inside the school? Or can I only come in on designated open houses and/or guided tour days?

What are some helpful tips for someone visiting schools? Should I bring a CV/resume just in case?

Cheers.

This isn’t a thing.

This isn’t like undergrad.
Every school I interviewed at, you had to check in upon arrival to a security desk and they’re not going to allow you to just wander around.

Usually how this all works: you get an interview and then you get to see the school.

I believe that the wise @gyngyn has mentioned that med schools particularly don't like this because of stalker-like behavior from some potential applicants/candidates.

Ya don’t bother. Most of the salient info u can get online and when you interview the details and culture will come more into focus on their own. Arguably one of the more important aspects of the interview is having the opportunity to interact with current students to get a feel for how things are at the school / if you vibe with them. You won’t get that on a solo tour

You can call the admissions office (find the number on their website) to find out their policy. I toured some med schools before applying because those schools offered open houses.

Applying to medical school is a weird process. You are most likely to get interviews at your state school. You're going to apply to them either way. No impression on a tour will change that. All other schools, your chances at an interview are very random so wasting time/money touring them isn't useful.

Your chances at any one medical school are pretty low, even if you have the perfect app for them. Therefore this is a huge waste of time. Get interviews, and then see what the schools are like on interview day. That's how this works.
