My Brother inlaw is an IMG reapplying this year. He wanted to visit a few programs in the tri state area and talk to the PD's or anybody else from the IM department. Is it worth it? or do PD's frown upon you for doing that? and if they don't any suggestions as to what you can ask them? any help will be appreciated.

personally, i'd think that would come across in a negative light, unless he has something really, really worthwhile to say. just coming to their office and saying, "hi, I'm Dr. X and i would love a spot in your program" is very odd in my opinion.

I've had people do it, and it's awkward at best. I usually spend a few minutes with the person and give them an abbreviated tour of the hospital. They don't usually get to see the PD or Asst PD unless someone higher up in the hospital hierarchy is making the request.
