Tannins inhibit iron absorption. You can do a pubmed search and find out a good bit about this.

BTW, iron is a mineral, not a vitamin.

In support of this a herbalist mentioned to me that tannic acid in tea was bad for humans..
(Not sure if its in green or black teas)

Tannic acid is not found in tea. You can't use tea to tan leather.

What people call tannins in tea are the polyphenols, or catechins.

If somebody ever hears me say "bad for humans" to one of my patients, you have my full permission to smack me with a big, aerodynamic copy of Robbins.

I'm shocked, positively shocked, to hear of an herbalist speaking a literal untruth.

Shocked.

I mean, if an herbalist's training doesn't preclude them from making mistakes regarding tea, dear lord, who will I turn to for my tea-based knowledge? My brewing and steeping lore?

Perhaps I can find an alchemist somewhere... You think they have a yellow page listing?
