VMCVM c/o 2025!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I tell myself every year that I'll stay away from SDN when it comes time for things to start happening but alas, here I am again.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and good luck!

Haha, this page is keeping me going at this point!

I am decorating for Christmas this week to keep from obsessing over my email, what are y'all up to?
I am anxiously waiting to hear back from my IS state school today, but I can't look at my email until I have finished my homework for class tomorrow. I have terrible senioritis and am procrastinating like a mother.

Eating all of my thanksgiving food to distract myself hahaha
Now THAT is something I can get behind!

What is your instate? (Hope you get good news there too!) And I feel you on procrastination, I have my bachelor's in biology, my master's in progress in animal and dairy science but I do hold a PhD in procrastination 😆

My IS is Davis (lord have mercy). I am ready for winter break yall so I can go brain dead for a month.

I'm attempting to distract myself from my emails by getting some school work done. It's somewhat effective!

My finals ended on last Friday! So now I feel like I have all of this time on my hands lol

Every time this thread gets traffic my blood pressure goes up! I’m anxiously waiting to hear back from 4 more schools!
and same lol granted I do cause much of the rising blood pressure! Who else are you waiting to hear from? I have 5 I am waiting to hear from also!

Who else are you waiting to hear from?
I am still waiting to hear from my IS (Texas A&M), along with Auburn, Michigan State, and VMCVM.
You can technically say 5, becasue I am waiting on Missouri as well, but I am already 95% sure it will be a rejection since interview invites were already sent out.

SAME! (about Missouri lol) but hey I mean ya can't win them all. And VMCVM and Colorado are my long shot programs so I hope to get good news, but it is what it is!

The wait is KILLING ME! But i have 8 other schools to hear back from besides VMCVM so I guess I better get used to being on the edge of my seat like this for at least the next two months hahaha

Is anyone else feeling a little uneasy about your Casper results? I've seen many people mention that they weren't able to finish some sections and after several practice tests (which I felt were easy), I didn't feel very confident about the one that mattered! I am nervous that this contributes to 25% of our overall scoring for acceptance!

Same!!! I literally didn't finish the majority of the sections on the Casper. I probably finished like 2 in their entirety. However, based on what I've heard from VMCVM, they won't look at your Casper score until you make it to the "interview" stage of the process, and anyone who makes it to that stage will either receive a waitlist position or an acceptance, no one receives a denial. So at the end of the day, if your application was good enough to get you into the phase where they look at your Casper score, but your Casper score stinks, at least a poor Casper score won't get you a denial, just probably a waitlist position instead of an acceptance.

I really don’t like that we can’t see the scores that we received. I feel like in an interview if our answer was unclear they would ask a clarifying question but with Casper it’s like eh well that person answered that poorly based on my ethical and moral beliefs. Ya know?

Exactly. And I feel like being a slow typer is sorta penalized with their format too. I could have articulated exactly what I wanted to say much quicker during an interview as opposed to physically typing it out and having to fix my spelling/grammar mistakes. The grading is so subjective too since none of the prompts had a right or wrong answer.

Honestly, I really hate the fact that we can't see our CASPER scores. I mean we already submitted the test so there's no way we can go back and change our answers. I don't know maybe because I am not in a good mood because I got rejected from my IS school just now, but I wish the CASPER could just tell us how we did.

I'm really sorry you got a denial today 🙁 I know it sucks so much right now, but you're gonna get through this and everything will work out in the end! I've been told by so so many vets during this process that the admissions decisions are a crapshoot and just because one school doesn't accept you, that doesn't mean you won't be admitted to a different school. Some part of this is all random, unfortunately. But don't lose hope that you will be accepted somewhere else! ❤️

I am sorry you got rejected, I have already gotten rejected from 4/10 schools and I am just bummed. With that, I also hate that we can't see our scores. I felt as if that test couldn't give great insight into my personality, passion/dedication for vet med, or what kind of doctor I will become. I could understand if it was used as a tool to weed out people who had no common sense but it's disappointing that several schools are using it to replace interviews this round.

I will echo what @Dana_May_B said. You cannot let a rejection determine your worth in this process. My first time I applied I was heartbroken to only be accepted to island schools (and don't get me wrong I was grateful that there was someone out there who thought I had it in me, but majority of the schools didn't). It really is some part luck and chance when it comes to applying.. who's desk you end up on and if they can relate to your story, who else is in that stack they are comparing you against, and even down to the mood they are in when they review applications. I know we like to think its not, but a lot of the process is an emotional choice. So just because who ever read your application this year didn't feel that connection with you doesn't mean that other schools won't or that someone won't next year. Just don't let it dim your light.

This is helpful information. At least I will know that it wasn't the reason for a denial!

Exactly! I was denied at 4 schools last year and waitlisted for VMCVM (denied). So here I am applying for a second time and I’ve already got one acceptance and 3 other interviews. Don’t give up and Stay positive!!

Thank you for the kind words everyone!❤️ I think I am heartbroken because this is my first time so I know my emotions are high. If anything, I am just thinking if I don't get in the first time what are my next steps? VIRGINIA, I AM COUNTING ON YOU!

Hey guys! so the suspense was killing me so i emailed them and they said the decisions won’t come out for another few weeks... at least now im not freaking out about tomorrow!
weeks???!?! aw man!!!!

You cannot let a rejection determine your worth in this process.
Oh my gosh I cannot speak on this enough!!! It was my third application cycle before I got an acceptance from anyone, and I won't hesitate to say that going through two years of waitlists and rejections was ROUGH. Whatever you do, please please PLEASE don't let any vet school's decision determine your worth!!! Thinking back to how I felt then I was pretty broken and almost didn't want to apply that third time. I had to flip those feelings around and use them to push me to fight even harder for my dreams. Now, I'm grateful for those two years because I had so much personal growth during that time and feel that it will make me a better vet in the end. After my final tomorrow I will be halfway done with second year, and I wish I could go back in time and tell that panicking little 20-year-old that everything is going to work out beautifully.

TL;DR - Vet school decisions don't define your worth, you are meant to do amazing things. Hang in there, and know that I'm rooting for you all :cat:

Hi everyone! I am an IS 3rd time applicant. The first time I was waitlisted and the second time I was denied. I had a meeting with the school to discuss my application and that helped put things into perspective, but I am still so nervous! Every time I get an email my heart stops for a split second 😳. Best of luck to us all!

I was invited to interview each time so they told me I didn't really need to change anything with my application, but I did make improvements to my essays each time. I did reach out for feedback on my interviews, and while I can't go into details about what they told me, it was super beneficial and helped me recognize what I needed to work on to better prepare myself.

Yeah! So they told me ways I can improve my essays based on what the person looking at my application wrote down. It was also helpful because they broke down each portion of the application and explained how it reflected your place in their admissions process, especially with grades and GPA. They also said that research is important to have and you could even add a class that was heavily research based. For example, I was completing an internship practicum for my masters and it had some research components to it and it was helpful hearing that I could use something like that. It was comforting because they know how passionate we are and going to them was such a positive experience.

Nice, that’s comforting to hear. What are you doing your masters in and did you begin it? Like is this your last year before completing it

Does anyone have an updated date when we might hear anything?

I saw in the Facebook group that someone emailed the admissions office for an updated projected decision time line and they replied that it would be within the next 2 weeks as of November 24th. The suspense builds.
So should we expect to hear from them by December 8th?
